And this is how Stardock's Impulse client works. You can use it to download/redownload games you've purchased but you don't actually need to run Impulse to play the games. My recent purchase of Demigod was influenced heavily by this (in addition to it being fun).

The only thing you actually need to run the Impulse client for are game updates.

I recently purchased Demigod and aside from the look of Impulse I have to say I like it better than Steam.

Unlike Steam, you do not need to be logged in to Impulse (it doesn't even need to be running) to play your games. You only need to log in to patch games.

I realize that Steam has an 'offline' mode but I still find it annoying. You have to start up Steam in order to play anything and if your cached creds get bombed you need an internet connection to re-authenticate. Hassle.

Exactly. You stand up for yourself and somehow you're the bad guy. It even extends to parents, man. The whole "don't stoop to their level" crap.

My wife and I have a son who is one and a half years old and we've already discussed and agreed upon situations like this. When our kid is old enough to understand we're going to reassure him that if he's ever picked on and defends himself we'll defend him all the way. If we get called in to the school because of an 'incident' and it turns out he was only defending himself I don't think the school administration will be too happy when we 100% condone what our kid did.

I realize this may cause problems with him being in that school, but that's something we'll deal with if/when the time comes. I refuse to preach bullshit to my kid about 'stooping to their level'.

I was a complete pussy when I was a kid and got picked on a lot and never once tried standing up for myself. I'm going to constantly ensure my kid that he'll receive no objection from me.

If it's anything like the last place I worked there is a reason for it (although a bad one).

My old department at my old job didn't like us listening to music because people from other departments would walk by and see us listening to music and then go complain to their managers. Why complain? Because their departments didn't allow people to listen to music for whatever reason. Why couldn't they listen to music if we could?

Wow. My wife and I just had a kid a year ago and we didn't experience any of the crap you did. My wife delivered at Sanford (formerly Sioux Valley) which is one of the two large hospitals here in SD.

The hospital offered birthing classes and we decided to go and they showed a bunch of videos and stuff. One of them talked about the different birthing positions and all you have to do is talk to your doctor about which one you want to use. They even had us fill out a sheet that detailed everything so that once the birth process started we wouldn't forget anything. It included preferences for birthing position, drugs, epidural, etc. They also discussed pros/cons of the pain meds/epidural so everyone could make an informed decision.

My wife needed to be induced as she was a week over due and half way through the day she decided to get an epidural because of the pain. However, there was someone in a room next to us that was clearly not using drugs as her screams were quite audible.

Our son was a non-caesarian birth and after our son did manage to come out the only thing they did was clear his nose and weigh him. Immediately after that they returned him to my wife at which point they instructed her to give him a breast feeding. They actually didn't take him away to clean him until after we had been with him for a good 2-3 hours. After that we were with him as much as we wanted, no fish tank required (not even suggested actually).

*shrugs* maybe we just got lucky with having a really good doctor.

I will say though that my state does seem to be in league with the medical industry here. Midwives are actually illegal and is a big issue right now as they are trying to pass legislation to allow it.

On a related note, I have a bit of revealing news to share with everyone. I chose to be white. Yep, you heard correctly. Me being white is a choice. Stand up oppressed minorities! You too can choose white.

Ask yourself a simple question: if white were not a choice, why do people say "once you go black, you never go back"? The mask slips just a tad too often, showing that the "it's not a choice" propaganda is pure lies.

Wow, you tried Blender for a whole 30 seconds? That's certainly an appropriate amount of time to get a handle on things and I commend you for your seriousness in giving it a chance.

    Seriously, what a douche statement.

Aside from the distros themselves Blender is my favorite OSS application. I used to work in an animation department as a student and they wouldn't give the students licenses for Lightwave3d so we instead used Blender. This was back in 2004 and I can't even begin to explain the leaps and bounds that Blender has made. It is fast becoming one of the "big-boy" applications.

Perhaps you should make a visit over at the Blender Artist Forums and take a look at some of the finished projects.

Don't bother 'trying' something if you aren't even planning on giving it a fair chance.
