Just because it is rewarding by itself to invent something that really moves the world forward, doesn't mean you shouldn't try to make the most of the situation.
Consider that X $ will be made from your idea, whatever you do. Would you rather A: Give those money to a rich corp. or B: Have those money for yourself or even C: Give the money to those who actually need it.
We can all agree that the dumb option is A....and I very much don't think there's anything wrong with option B.
That's a very hard question to answer, as it depends solely on just how good your idea is:)
Perhaps you could consider # of people who will use an implementation of your idea and multiply that by some very small number, to get an idea of how much you'll make.
Of course, if your idea is better, both numbers will increase. And yes, I know I am stating the obvious...
That is a very good point. We don't need a nanny state protecting us with laws, that ultimately, take away our freedom.
If the product doesn't do what they said it would, they are required to refund you. Surely that's enough consumer protection? If it stops working you have warranty. As long as they don't have a "average rating" which is false, or anything along those lines, I see nothing wrong in what they do.
My box is called "Monster" as, when i got it (5 years ago) it was a very good computer...
Now it sucks, but is kinda funny:) Still haven't figured out what to call my laptop...maybe "RebornASaint" - it came with vista which was slow as hell but is now running happily with ubuntu:P
Sounds exactly like what I have in Denmark...
Actually, only people who DONT use IE get the pad in my bank...:D. IE users get an activeX plugin. Yay for the worlds least secure browser.
I believe the LHC is perfectly safe...but your comparisons aren't that good...and here's why:
When testing a car for the first time, the worst that could happen is the tester of the car dies.
It is very easy to find one person who believes the science - and therefor is willing to test the car.
We should not expect the entire planet to be happy to "test" the LHC and its physics. We know they are safe...and don't mind testing. But some people aren't, and you can't really complain about that.
Oh and the bombs where made to end WWII, so there was obviously a very imminent need for the nuke...unlike the LHC physics...which are immensely interesting, but not really important for everyone.
I think laptops SUCK for lan...here are some reasons:
1: When someone tips over a can of coke, your laptop is dead. On a desktop you can just get a new keyboard.
2: A proper screen is a real piece of show-off hardware.
3: The size of your machine ensures you a certain amount of personal space.
4: Laptops suck for gaming...
And many more, ofcourse:P
I don't type in "slashdot.org", I hit "sl down enter Why don't you set a keyword for your slashdot bookmark (sl for example) - that would save you the down keypress:P
The TLD's do have one use (some of them anyway) - they indicate the expected language of the page your about to see.
For many companies in denmark, for example, the NAME.dk domain is more important than the NAME.com...as.com is not what danish people type automatically. - also, for example, the danish newspaper "BT" would not be able to get the url bt.com (british telecoms) - but use bt.dk with success, and without breaking any IP laws.
There was never a carpet bombing vulnerability in firefox (you would know this if you read the original article about the bug.). Also, please explain the word "conjunction" from TFA.
But that doesn't mean you NEED to use Safari to exploit the Firefox bug. Presumably you can use any method to download a rogue file to the users desktop. Yea, I agree with you there, and also, sorry for trying to keep things simple;)
I've discovered a way to use the Safari's carpet bomb in conjunction with Firefox to steal user files from the local file system.
Notice the phrase "in conjunction" - that means you need to exploit the carpet bombing bug in safari...thereby uncovering a security problem in firefox that allows you to "steal" files.
Yep, this shouldn't really be called "Photoshop 1.0 Recreated On iPhone".
I mean, why not just call it "Photoshop CS4 Recreated On iPhone", afterall, CS4 also has the histogram dialogue...

Remember to think before you post ;)
TFA says 1e100 as in...a gogol.
This guy doesn't entirely agree with you:

Are you implying that the server automatically generated "Never Gonna Give You Up"? Because if you are, that is pretty damn amazing ;)
Also, that would be infringing upon mr. Ashleys copyright oO
Yeh, I was hoping for the MIA (MS Internal Affairs) who are a CSI type outfit to come in and kick the hell out of everybody ;)
;)
Or at least something more surprising and "insiderish" than this BS.
Then again I should know not to RTFA

Nice choices.

Haha best youtube laugh I've had for a while :) Thanks for sharing that.
Yeah, its cool :)
Also gamers compare FPS instead of comparing penis size. Surely that's a good thing, even if both are reasonably pointless?
I actually agreed with that...
From my experience something like 50% of HD* users probably don't know what the H and D stand for...
Sounds exactly like what I have in Denmark... Actually, only people who DONT use IE get the pad in my bank...:D. IE users get an activeX plugin. Yay for the worlds least secure browser.
Thats the way it is...

That is a problem of regulation and anti-squatting measures - and that problem will be there whether x.com is called x.com or just x.
Right?
or you could just use an other DNS service like openDNS?
Just make x = x.com? That sure could be done without breaking anything?

Will this mean racing games can finally include all the awesome cars they want, and GT can finally do proper damage sim. without risking lawsuit?
