That's exactly what happened to me. I went to a regular private school and eventually started failing my classes. Not because I was slow, but because I just didn't care to actually complete assignments. Having an IQ of 135, I learned the information twice as fast as my classmates and I did well on all of my tests. I just never did the projects that were designed to prop up the grades of the less intelligent students. So my parents got me on the ADD medicine. I finally quit taking it when I hit highschool (and was actually challenged for once. Thankfully I was sent to a magnet school instead of being stuck in another mediocre private school).
Yeah that about sums it up. In our school district, they're pushing more regular students into our magnet schools (this is a Louisiana magnet school, mind you). Basically they're trying to level the playing field. Unfortunately, this means the AP students don't have as many higher-level classes to take because they have to cater to the regular-class students. If you ask me, High Schools should be like colleges, where they get to choose whether or not you're smart enough to attend. This sort of thing just annoys me to no end.
Please note that I ran Linux as my only OS from 1997 through 2002
Linux as my only OS from 1997 through 2002
1997 through 2002 Perhaps the reason you think that is because you used Linux for the last time 5 years ago. Want to know why theres so many Linux users today (myself included)? Because it's now better than Windows.
Why stop there? Who claimed that said beings would even need to be cellular organisms? Perhaps there is some sort of alternative form of existence that we simply haven't considered that would enable life (in some form or another) in even the most severe conditions. Life will find a way.
Well, unfortunately the plate has a higher specific heat than the air. So once the plate heats up thoroughly, there will be a maybe half degree difference between the two sides. Now if you put ice on one side and something hot on the other, it will produce quite a bit of energy. But its impractical for electricity generation.
I dont think it matters whether they lose or win. I think the lawsuit is just to let people know that hey, they arent a part of it and they dont support it. Its just an image thing. They dont want people thinking that Apple sells a waterproof massager.
Dude what are you talking about? Maybe for power users they need the enhanced functionality of Office 2007 but what extra "Average" features does it add? I use openoffice to type my school papers, powerpoints, and schedule my classes in a spreadsheet. It works perfectly for my needs and I guarantee it works perfectly for just about anyone's needs unless youre doing something like writing a book. And thats what Final Draft is for (which happens to run 100% under wine, by the way). MS Office is useless. Its expensive, bloated with so many features that I can never make it do right. OOo is the best choice for 80% of computer users. Unfortunately, most people don't know the difference between Windows and their Dell, much less know what Open-ANYTHING is. Sad, really....
I was talking to one of my friends (who happens to be from India) the other day about computers. I mentioned that I use Linux and he was absolutely amazed and asked me why I would do that. Linux is considered the poor-man's operating system and most computers that come with it are wiped and a pirated version of Windows is installed. I'm still trying to grasp the reasoning behind it, other than I think Linux has the reputation as "too poor for Windows"
Not only that but the downloads available for free to students. My university offers Vista Ultimate for free and I'm sure they bought some bulk license that goes towards the total vista "sales" though it was really just given away.
Dude. Rules 1 and 2.

The http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_os.asp site paints a much different picture with Vista sales not growing very fast at all and OS X and Linux still beating Vista sales.
"The Sword of Gryffindor presents itself to any worthy Gryffindor." I assume it fell out of the burning Sorting hat.
It's not a bug! It's a feature!
Actually, I believe he still contributes to the kernel, though the article where I read this could be dated.

It wont play them until you install a DVD decoder. Pain in the rear if you ask me....

The "trick" is not being based in the USA. Our copyright laws cant touch them.
But remember: at one time, nobody thought you would need more than 64KB of ram.

One thing i cant stand is big companies taking "legal" action against free services just so they can charge the user money. Infuriating.
I have a feeling alot of these patents are things like http://ubuntulinuxtipstricks.blogspot.com/2007/05/ did-microsoft-just-patent-sudo.html
In which case couldn't they be counter-sued for slander and libel?
1. Attack competing operating systems. 2. ??? 3. Profit!!
Or if youre an existentialist (not unlike Nietzsche), maybe you never existed in the first place :)
Yeah who isnt?
Yeah seriously. Does he not realize that Linux runs re-installed on most non-US computers? What an idiot.
Didn't the first calculators use Polish Postfix Notation, making grouping symbols unnecessary?
