Here in the USofA a lot of people don't have a choice. We have one provider for phone and internet. We can't even get satellite because the mountains block it. So, we deal with the single provider who charges us $130/month for basic phone and slow internet. Forget broadband.
Ah, there's the joke. They're bringing this out long after every other car manufacturer will already be selling autonomous cars. They're promoting their vintage car. By the time it comes out it will be old tech.
That -225ÂF night time low is interesting. I have a super freezer with a double compressor that goes down to -121ÂF which is colder than dry ice. I use this for shipping meat from our on-farm butcher shop. It's so cold that if you touch anything inside the freezer with your bare hands you'll stick to it and get instant frost bite. When you first open the chest freezer there is a mist undulating of CO2 vapor that hasn't quite frozen yet. Very cool to play with. Night time on Mars is far colder. Ouch!
Someone else posted the economic conversion based on comparable costs of living at about 75% which still makes that damn good money. If someone hands you free money, that's just nice. Quit your belly acking.
Then please put your money in the bond market. I'll keep mine in land and tools that actually earn me money. In bad times I can live on the land, get my heat from the land, my building materials from the land, my food from the land. You can't eat bonds - or they'll give you indigestion at least. Maybe you could use them for wiping your ass.
And why are we listening to this loser chump? If he wants to give 50% of his money to the government that is fine. It is perfectly legal for you to pay more taxes than required by law. Go ahead, Woz. Pay my day. But wait, no, he isn't wanting to give up his money! He wants to force other people to do it his way! Ah...! How totalitarian of the Woz of Id.
"Swiss adults would get $2,500 per month, and kids around $625 per month"
That is more than many (most?) small farmers get now. This would mean a basic income of $52K per year for a family with three kids. I've had many years where I made $14K and supported our family fine. $52K would be luxury and that would be above the $14K - damn nice.
There are many reasons to like the universal income idea. I don't think it will actually make people stop working. People want more stuff. What it will do is give them the chance to do more interesting things. Some won't but many will.
From the article: "British Airways said its engineers inspected the Airbus Group SE A320 airliner, found no damage, and cleared the plane to continue operating."
So this is really much worry about nothing. All this hype and FUD about airplane vs drones is malarky.
What I disagree with is the way that people over generalize the statement. They go from the true meaning of excess to saying everyone's excess point is the same point and then trying to legislate that point. The reality is some people, such as myself, have a high salt tolerance and some people have low salt tolerances. That excess point varies with your heredity.
"It's common knowledge that excess sodium can be detrimental to one's health."
Actually, wrong, except in the absolute form of "too much" is "too much". The reality is different people have different sensitivities to sodium. Recent research shows that for some people it is a problem while for others it is not a problem.
All the Chinese government will accomplish with this sort of thing is the dumbing down of their citizenry putting them behind the west in the Great Competition they desire so much to excel at. Sad. Go for it.
"US Says It Would Use 'Court System' Again To Defeat Encryption"
Yet, the failed. There is no "Again" since they did not use the court system to defeat the encryption. This is all just PR and spin propaganda about their failure and intimidation tactics. I'd love to see the Supreme Court reach down and nail this government vampire with a wooden stake to kill government overreach and abuse of powers. Dreaming...
Are they aware that they are allowed to send in extra money to the IRS each year, each month? The IRS will not refuse the money nor will the IRS automatically refund the money. The IRS will graciously accept donations. If these 40 people want to pay more then all they have to do is write a check. Or better yet, do an electronic funds transfer each month to the government. It's easy to pay extra in taxes if you want to do so.
My son and I were just talking about this idea a couple of weeks ago. What we were focused on is how much fuel and break pads would be saved by eliminating traffic lights. Here in Vermont they've been putting in a lot of round abouts which have a similar effect but it would be even better we thought if auto autos communicated with each other and solved this.
Any research that was funded in part by our taxes should be freely available. Otherwise the researchers and their universities should stop taking our money and start footing the bill.
It works with small prey too. I watch our dog pack do it all the time. The squirrel or other small animal dodges away from one of them right into the jaws of another. Team work does wonders.
It works very well with small prey too. The only reason I mentioned size is I anticipate people saying they can't take down prey larger than themselves.
I wonder if you've ever actually hunted. Not with a rifle which is a remote action but by running your prey to the ground and killing it. I've done it to prey far larger than me. It's not all that hard. We are evolved for doing this. We work as packs, running our prey in a grand circle, always turning. Eventually the prey is exhausted. Humans and wolves are particularly good at this hunting tactic and were long before the use of firearms, bows, spears or even knives or stone kludges. The run down and kill is the easy part. Breaking it up into easily digestible pieces is much harder. I can well see how cutting predated fire as a method of improving this process. It's all evolutionary steps.
One word: Monopoly

I'm wise enough not to live where it's expensive.

It's damn good money - remember it's being just handed out. If someone gives me $52K without my having to do any work that's damn nice!

This has been a problem in agriculture and other industries for decades.

Great products don't need replacing. The iPad works. It does what it needs to do. This means you don't have to keep buying new ones.
People who do upgrade sell theirs which produces market saturation as people who can't afford the new ones buy the old ones.
That is an environmentally sound product as it produces less waste.
Another great product is the Mac. Macs last far longer than Windows PCs and the lifetime cost of ownership is far lower.
Again, Apple does right.

Hmm... She definitely doesn't look like she's speaking Japanese. I studied Japanese a long time ago and still understand it a little.
If you want really weird, try lip reading what she's saying. I can't hear her and when I lip read her face I get nonsense. Very fast nonsense.

Don't worry, the gov would pay the fine to itself.
