Well, I do USE an ATi Rage 128. It does all the things I need it to do. My Quake 2 plays nicely, Quake 3 is bearable but I don't play it as much. Not everyone needs a GeForce256 or a GeForce GTS. I chose my card based on economics. It gives me what I found as the best performance to cost at the time I bought it. It was a year ago when I got mine for 80 dollars online and you can still get them online for cheaper. Apple is only hurting themselves by using an older video card now. It'd be like shipping all of your new computers with an old Trident 2meg pci card. This choice limits the lifetime of the usability of the machine if it can't be upgraded.
I have a hard enough time backing up my 6gb drive at home. Where are you going to get an affordable backup solution for that huge 60gb drive of yours?
Your first statement assumes that typical people actually *FILL* their 60 GB drives. I've got a 30GB hard driver and I have had a hell of a time trying to fill it up. I started with mp3's. But my whole cd collection fit snugly under 10 gigs (about 80 cd's worth) and I still had a ton of room. People who have enough info to fill a 60 gig drive should know of a way to back it all up and should already have a way to back it all up. If I format my hard drive, sure I lose those cd's that i ripped from my collection, but anything else is trivial. Most information on home users' computers is trivial.
The government is taking the role of the parent for today's youth. Being 19, I know what it's like to have gone to an arcade to play "violent" games. I was a Street Fighter II (and all various flavors) player and my parents knew it. They allowed me to play such games and trusted me to behave myself after playing such games. I find it hard to swallow that the parents of the city of Indianapolis are having that hard of a time controlling their own children. This not only puts a "taboo" effect on violent games as "the games to play" in the eyes of the little rebel wanna-bes. This also puts strain on the parents of the children. How many parents trust their children enough to go to the arcade alone in the mall for an hour, leaving the adult(s) to do as (s)he pleases? I know my parents did. This will get on the nerves of parents as well as make children and teens frustrated at the fact that they can't spend their own money the way THEY want to.
I'm so glad someone marked my post as a troll. I have 15 total karma to burn. And I have ALOT more opinion to burn if someone wants to disagree with me. But to mark me down as a troll for difference of opinion rather than some offense with substance shows the lack of tolerance of my last moderator. That's all I have to say about that.
No one seems to think about maybe having CLOSED SOURCE LINUX DRIVERS. Would it hurt you that much to have fully functional drivers that you couldn't crack open? If they worked well enough, doing what you bought said card for, would you NEED to hack anything else? So what if FULLY WORKING drivers aren't GPL'd. The world doesn't come to a crashing halt everytime someone somewhere using something that's not OSS. It might slow to a crawl (;) ), but it works completely.
I think it's good that Mitnick has been allowed to speak and such. So long as his engagements do not violate his probation, he should be able to do what he pleases. Lectures and public appearances seem relatively simple. So he has to stay away from anything communications related... big deal. I'm sure he's still allowed the privilege of overhead projectors and maybe even *gasp* a slideshow! Or can he use these as evil weapons to over throw the world again?
Maybe this is a good sign for Linux

Kinda goes with the saying about rice... 1 billion chinese can't be wrong.
I think the name is a clear copyright violation of the movie "Plan 9 from Outer Space" by Ed Wood! To allow them to release it would be harmful to horrible movies everywhere!
Something truly worthy of Beowulf clustering! We can put Linux on these and send them to attack Redmond in hordes! Soon we will conquer the world! Our enemies shall talk themselves to death.... We shall prevail!!!!
I disagree. The point of free speech is to let everyone who can read, speak, or comprehend views decide which views are acceptable and which are not. Giving this power to the government gives those opposing the government the impetus to becomes free speech advocates.
Now I can finally get all the episodes of Murder She Wrote from USA and all the episodes of The Tick from Comedy Central! And lets not forget anything shown on Lifetime!
Had it been meant to be understood by all people, then I would have gladly made it that way....nah...=) I meant to convey the MP as Military Police instead of that implied Multiprocessing. I'm sorry if my spontaneous declaration disturbed or confused you.
Military Patrol G4's to make sure the others stay in the country! Seriously, Multiprocessing G4 machines would be a great leap for Macintosh in general. Combined with multi-monitor support since the Age of Old(TM), this should make them an even more formidable platform for serious users.
Hackers are kids who make government agents' lives miserable a la Hackers. Crackers are white boys who make Shaft's life miserable. Just talking 'bout Shaft...ya damn right....
I've seen what happens when you open the "Source of the Windows." A giant spirit floats out and shoots death rays into everyone who's watching..... oh wait that's what happens when you open the Ark of the Covenant. Hmmmm. Don't open the Windows source code or else! Beware the death rays! We should all take a hint from Harrison Ford.
Robotic snakes are easier to maintain than space monkeys! Not only will they not need to breathe (silly oxygene) but the eat mice! Logitech will be the sole feed provider for these marvelous creatures.
I have one [P2 266/64MB/6.4GB] with DVD and it has excellent sound jacks in the back. Haven't had a chance (or need) to use the s-Video outs on the back yet, but the DVD plays well on the LCD with the hardware decoder that came on it. It's pretty sweet for the 700 I paid.
I have some twisted friends who live ont he hall that all but condemn their Sims to death anyway. I think it'sonly a matter of time before one of them gets a computer fast enough to stage a mini-Sim Holocaust. Death to all the Guinea Pig Owners!
The only problem with a solution like this is that none of the mp3's actually pass through napster servers. The Napster servers are merely a forum for people to meet and hold client to client transfers. Kinda like a musical dating service, if you will. In order for your plan to work, Napster would have to modify the client to send info to the servers that then collect the info on what was being downloaded ( a simple text string of the file name could be analyzed by the same software that compiles the databases ) and that would raise a bunch of sh*t with people on privacy issues.
Look out foo' or Dr. Dre will come buss a cap in yo ass! You keep pizz-eye-rating his songs and he'll show you what real thug love is all about. Peace out b*tches....
What could the average slashdot troll do with such a box?
- faster first posts
- use the heat to cook some hot grits
- render natalie portman naked and petrified in realtime
- buy several for a super dooper beowulf cluster
- forge real looking slashdot logins (ie. bruc3 p3r3nz)
- tease signal 11
the list goes on and on....This sucks. Now you have to be verbally reminded of the upcoming shows on TGIF! Just when you though you could forget them!

hey there, power mac,
swinging round the mouse so fancy free
nobody you meet could ever see the source code in there...
inside you
hey there, power mac,
why do most fanatics pass you by?
could it be you just don't try?
or is it the case you wear?
you're always window shopping
but never trying to change
this won't get newer people in range.....
as customers..
hey there, power mac,
there's another OS deep inside
BSD is really neat but darwin it came to be...
the world will see....
a new power mac!
