  1. Fakes abound. on Apple's 'Shoddy' Beats Headphones Get Slammed In Lawsuit (theregister.co.uk) · · Score: 3, Informative

A recent TV investigation (I think it was BBC's Rogue Traders) featured people getting ripped off with poor quality fakes of premium brand headphones, including Beats, IIRC. Wonder if some of the complainants here have been similarly caught out.

DJB wrote qmail, daemontools, etc, to be simple and robust, in line with the Unix philosophy of having lots of little tools, each doing one thing well. He also put his money where his mouth was, offering bug bounties. If there's a correlation between his software and systemd, it may be in that it upset an established way of doing things.

Coke and Pepsi are little more than caramel-coloured fizzy sugar water. And that's in the UK. I dread to think what that HFCS stuff tastes like. For a decent cola, try the Barr's version of this. And then there's this, our other national drink. A much nicer way to rot your teeth.

The splitting off of the postal service from telecommunications saw one side decline into a loss-making enterprise (post) and the other become a cash cow (telecoms). It's a bit ironic that this year the Royal Mail announced its first profit in years whilst BT posted losses.

I'm all for the Web - it gives people the freedom to publish their own damn nonsense, I just can't stand the amount of duplication you need to search through these days to find anything, be it news, software or tasteful pictures of Reese Witherspoon's chin (she could always double up as a snow plough if times get tough in the acting business).
