    Remember, your job is to make somebody else's job easier or possible. The user of your code isn't trying to make your job HARDER. He's trying to make his EASIER. That's the way it is supposed to be.

    Also, try to understand the problem that is being solved. Don't trust the requirements. You can successfully implement the requirements and completely fail to solve the problem. Don't be afraid to find some way to get those who will be using what you make to give you feedback that you've actually made their task easier, better, or more complete. You may need to learn how to do their job so you can really sympathize with their problem.

    Supernova don't get most of their energy from the sun itself. It gets the energy from the entire circuit it is a part of. Thus, this star could in fact have been very small, but been in a very large circuit and been this bright.

    The real problem about the Astronomy is that they only know slightly more than the Astrologers. The plasma scientists here on earth know more about how the stars really work than the Astronomers.

    The plasma scientists can create the common Spiral Galaxy in simulations with ease. They don't have to create any dark matter or dark energy to do it, or even black holes.

    Until the Astronomers catch up to what the Plasma scientists know about magnetism and electric currents, everything we're told about is wrong. Red shift very little to do with distance.

    Although an error from the REST god would simply be an HTTP 400 Bad Request or 409 Conflict and contained the above..

    • Saved us from the interoperability problem by allowing us to transfer data from and to any system transparently. Sure, you only have to transform the output of one application into the input of the second system.
      • Gee, thanks, at least now I know what I'm getting verbosely.
    • Reduce coding problem ( using for example, the function "XML DoSomething(XML params)", so you can change the params without changing the interface and the doc (duh!) )
      • Awesome! Now I have found the perfect excuse for why I don't need to document my code! (I know I should...).
    • Reduce database problem ( storing XML as blob in the DB - no need to call the DBA when you change the data format )
      • Yippie! Now, I just have to search using "XML_Blob LIKE '%<answer>42</answer>%'".
    • Solve configuration problem ( now configuration file are in XML that means it is easy to understand )
      • Uh, I didn't realize I had a problem with INI files, now, how do I comment out an option?

    Dear XML God, please save my soul.

    So, you want to represent data, heh?
    Here are three choices I've gotten to work:
    JSON
    XML
    CSV
    Have you ever seen nested CSV files? They're truely bizzare to see, but if you have a sufficiently powerful parser, they can be read. New Line characters are to be record separators only when they are fully outside of quotes. Commas are to be used as field separators, only when they are fully outside of quotes. Quotes are to be used as content descriminators only when not doubled up.
    The closest thing to a CSV spec that I've ever found.
    My silver bullets of choice? Data encoding for transfer.
    My next favorite silver bullet set, Web Services.
    My other favorite silver bullet set, Programming Languages.

    It has two touch sensitive areas on the top that you can set up to be two buttons or one. The side buttons are not the normal mouse buttons. RTFA, er wait, bad link, go to the store and click on the big mouse on the front page!

    I have three copies, at least, of mine in 3 different databases. The only way I know how to make sure which one is the one that is important to me is to keep a version in a text file, edit it, and apply it to the servers in turn. (One to three development databases, One test database, and finally production.) It doesn't help that I have no direct way to change or view stored procedures on the Production system, so that Whiz-bang GUI tool is dead in the water with regards to it.

    Fan of Notepad++, I just wish its Function completion feature would include functions from the included files of the php/asp page you're editing.
