I like Kart. The GC versions was pretty crappy. The Wii versions goes back to more of the great N64 version. Good new features are online play in Vs, battle, and time trials. Try downloading some of the world record holding ghosts in the time trials, it's impressive.

I just wish they had brought back the short oval track from the GC.

  10. Re:Herzog Zwei anyone? on Examining the Beginnings of the RTS Genre · · Score: 1

I still have a functioning copy Herzog. My 6 year-old was playing with my old Genesis over the summer, so I've actually played it in the last year. That game has intense PvP.

It's definitely an RTS, even if you control the main unit on the board directly. I'd say it's more similar to the C&C style games than it is different. Most of the differences are b/c it's a console game instead of PC. You get money by taking over mini-bases, make and command units, and win by destroying the enemies base.

Dune 2 was an awesome game. Every time I play a modern C&C game, I always lament the absence of the Dune-style transports. It was so rewarding to watch them fly your harvesters around the board.

I agree, the machines are really nice. If you can live with a raw batter, its a really quick process.

One tip, if you're making cookies and cream ice cream, freeze the cookies first, then you can just break them up in a zip lock with a hammer. If they aren't frozen, the white stuff smears all over, plus the batter freezes better when the cookies are cold.

  16. How are MagLevs economical? on Maglev On the Drawing Boards · · Score: 1

What I don't understand about Mag-Lev's, is how they don't consume an inordinate amount of power - which isn't to say that they don't, I just don't see how they can't. If they worked with natural magnets on the train, and natural magnets on the track, I could see them being efficient, but everything I've seen shows the trains using electromagnets. Unlike a wheeled train which uses no energy to sit above the track, you'll need gobs of continuous power just to float the train, and you haven't even left the station yet. Am I wrong?

If that were true, then they would be piling up on the shelves, which I haven't seen. If they aren't sitting on the shelves, and sales are down, then they aren't releasing as many to the stores. Maybe they are cutting shipments to build inventory for the Christmas season. If they already know they can't meet this year's Christmas demand, this may the part of a strategy to minimize the number of angry Christmas shoppers.
