Welcome to Slashdo'lics Anonymous. Please tell us what your problem is and we'll help you! We do this because of our simple three step business plan: 1) Help Slashdotters attain a normal mental state. 2) ??? 3) Profit!
The method we have found most effective thus far is to have, in Soviet Russia, Linux running a Beowulf cluster, analyzing Slashdot posts and determining the most common jokes. It's faster than Natalie Portman at jumping to conclusions.
Anyway, we'd like to hear your opinions. So, what are they?
Jimmy: I, for one, welcome our new therapeutic overlords. Zerg: What happened to us, the insect overlords? [goes to a corner and weeps] Bob: Well, Al Gore invented the AA, so I'm kind of skeptic about this. Nothing good ever came of an Internet spin-off, why should this be any different? R2D2: [beeps in agreement] Jimmy: You must be new here... R2D2: [in morse code] I can't speak, you insensitive clod.
Evidence? How frequent are the school shootings in Europe? How frequent are they in the USA? I'm pretty sure the latter is more frequent. If you weight it (with population), I don't know, but I've got an inkling it would still be the USA.
I never made the first assumption. Outlawing guns would simple mean there are less guns lying around for eight-year old kids and mentally unstable, AND for criminals. They can still get guns illegally, but at least it means HAVING a gun is illegal, not just shooting people with it.
Outlawing guns would prevent previously law-abiding citizens from becoming murderers.
I can't see why the elderly, people who are small, physically weak, or disabled should need firearms to protect themselves. If they're afraid (with reason) that something bad is going to happen, there are other means of protection that are probably less dangerous than possessing a gun.
If noone had guns would you need the guns for protection? I don't think so.
As for hunting, you would have to get a permit.
As for assuring liberty... well, that's what politics is for (HA! As if).
I honestly can't see how the benefits of allowing everyone to bear arms outweigh the disadvantages. Disadvantages such as these shootings.
In my opinion, we can blame the law for facilitating situations like this.
Yes, and in the same vein, we should completely ban divorce.
Is that what this is all about?
To me, games haven't deprived me of "innocence", it was other factors from the real world. I expect this to be much the same to other people. In fact, I doubt anyone loses their innocence in video games if they know that video games are not real. I think most children (above obvious low ages) know this difference.
I've been looking into Ruby (on Rails) recently and, from what I gather, it's not just hype.
Meaning that, from what I've seen, it seems pretty good.
Maybe the more experienced Ruby programmers (and the other ones, who decided not to use ruby even after learning all about it) can enlighten me further?
I'd like to know exactly why Rails is so good.
I bet Ruby on Rails has something to do with this article, in any case.
This is obviously some strange usage of the word "nearby" that I wasn't previously aware of.
Oh, really?
It's not a big nanotruck.
Any revolution happening on April 25th? ;P

My condolence to everyone involved.
Developers developing developing developers. Developing developers develop in developing developments. Developing development developing developing developers.... .... .... Yes!

This is like saying "Windows can't access my program in RAM, it's copyright violation!"

Before April 1st ;)
Sounds like subversive, sleazy advertisement to me.
Honestly, Slashdot these days...
With MySQL?
