You do understand that just about all software in that watchguard box is built buy people wasting there time as you call it. Do you really think Linux is 100% great. Nothing can be done better?
It's a pitty 99.98% of slashdot users don't know how to install Linux, don't care, and would be thrilled to have something they can just plug in that just works.
(And that doesn't make Linux any less good, so don't mod this flamebait.)
I think it's kind of sad that all that matter is money. Personally I'm not running Linux because it's beer free. I'm running it because speech free. I'm taking some of those ideas into the company I work for too. You can't put a pricetag on everything.

Oh come on. Climb down from your high horses.
Webkit is forked of khtml dickhead. They are forced to give it away. If they where not there would be no code for you to look at.
Apple is about as much open source as Microsoft. Only giving away code they have to give away or code noone except Mac users care about (darwin).
Apple is in no way in the spirit of open source. I have used other open source operating systems well before Macs barely could multitask and this OS X you speak so highly about give nothing new to the open source table. All the interessting stuff is locked down so tight you can't do anything with it from an open source perspective.
So please. You have a great operating system there in OS X. Lets stay at that. It isn't particulary open source. Apple is a big company and could bring a hell of a lot more to the table then what they do right now. Until they do, many of us will not consider it to be the next open source operating system.
More info is definetely needed before +5 interesting. Which OS, Filesystem, mountoptions and queue disk setup did you use for qmail to act like this.
I've had qmail experience the behavior you are talking about using Solaris/ufs/noasync (single scsi disk) but using ext3/async,noatime (single scsi) under Linux X86 has proven to be very nice.
Reiser would probably do a good job here too.
Setting up mailservers is more science then just telling what sucks and what does not.
The smoke is starting to settle.. SCOs bigest problem is that they think that they own any code written by any programmer released under any licence belong to them. Double the SCO ownage if it somehow have found it's way into their Unix sources. Tripple if it's in Linux too.
I don't care if Quicktime is open source, free software, or dictated to a trained monkey by God himself and compiled in secret. It should, however, support full screen video playback without upgrading to Pro for $30.
You need mplayer. It's free and at least on Linux/x86 plays quicktime fullscreen. Have not tried OS X version.
with a few modifications to the license that would encourage commercial corporations to develop for the Linux kernel
The GPL is a pretty good licence for this purpuse if you want to keep Linux free and open source. If free/open source isn't a big concern then by all means change it. With the GPL companies can release their work into the main branch of Linux and still have strong copyrights on the source in case anyone wants to licence it outside of the scope of the GPL (for a proprietary system).
Sure, lets say Linux and tools was BSD licenced. There would probably be no JFS or XFS in the main kernel and IBM would probably keep the NUMA patches for themselfes.
The GPL put preasure on companies to release their stuff as free software and it is working, today.
A prime example of how the Open Source community wastes resources by re-inventing the wheel again and again and again.
This is the lamest argument I have ever come across.. Is there only one commersial operating system? Only one commersial webserver? Only one commersial database. Only one commersial instant messenger?
For fuck sake.. This has nothing to do with open source Mr. troll.
An important aspect probably is copyright. With Linux/GPL SGI can "donate" XFS to the kernel and still have a strong copyright on that particular code. If they where to donate code to BSD using the BSD licence they would essentially give up the copyright to the code. Sun could implement it into Solaris for free. SGI make no cash. If they only donate the code as GPL they can still sell it for a profit to Sun. This way GPLd code can get lots of new quailty code fast from strong companies.
A commersial aspect of th GPL that don't get much attention.
Yes, I know Sun isn't licencing XFS (to stop the./ nitpickers)
No one shall dictate under what terms I use hardware that I have bought. Illegal or not, it's my stuff. I use it as I see fit or don't sell it to me.
A console is essentially a computer. These days very much so. There are tons of uses for computers and the fact that I bought it makes it mine and I use it to satisfy my needs. This is no different from buying any other stuff. Gadgets gets used for things not intended by the manufacturer even though most people use there consoles to play games on.
Who cares about as you say it "any other real use". I say it again. It's mine. I payed for it. I use it as I see fit even though you don't call it a "real use".
What is the delay in getting SCO to court with IBM so they actually have to SHOW US what they are claiming violates their contract with IBM and / or their IP
First they need to raise some cash to take on IBM. Thats what they are doing with this Unixware licence thingy. Will probably take a while.
SCO can take there Super php board and cram it up their ass. Then they can charge for it again when they shit it out.
But is it an Apple?

How fast is citrix? Because on a LAN X is pretty snappy, almost like local. Or is citrix very good on low bandwith networks?

Who cares if it works or not. When I buy something it should be mine and I should be able to resell it. I don't pay $0.99 for air.
Does the sentence "I payed $1000 for my music collection yesterday, today it's worth $0." sounds good to you.
scooter?

Have SCO really so poorly researched these examples that this is the best they can show us?
Hey, it's sourcecode. It must belong to SCO...
The smoke is starting to settle.. SCOs bigest problem is that they think that they own any code written by any programmer released under any licence belong to them. Double the SCO ownage if it somehow have found it's way into their Unix sources. Tripple if it's in Linux too.

There is no way an apple user admit apple cripple their computers, heat issue invented.
But really it's a non issue.. The users didn't pay for DVD-RW and now they have it anyway. Would make me happy.

OSX is better suited since it has souperior Multiprocessing and threading to linux in every possible aspect.
And since this is apple.slashdot no backing up of claims is needed.

Figures... Only microsoft would run SMB over the internet.
I have had fun on computers since the day they reached 1 mhz. Whats wrong with this one?

I tried Minix, but rogue wouldn't compile, so I tried Linux and have been using it ever since.
Wow, you must be a big fan of rouge.
Happy B Slack!
