  4. Side effects on Is Agriculture Sucking Fresh Water Dry? · · Score: 2

Maybe using lots of water in agriculture is actually a good thing.

Lets actually look at what side effects might be if plants weren't getting enough water, for a start photosynthesis needs lots of water for the electron exchange of the reaction, now yes there are alternatives (arsenite) usually they are toxic, also only work in specific bacteria designed to do it that way.

Fundamentally, the more water the more photosynthesis, the more sugar (for us and livestock to eat) and oxygen we get. Therefore maximizing water usage for agriculture without drowning the plants is a good thing for all of us. It's not like water doesn't fall from the sky, it is the most abundant substance on this planet and not using it in one area does not suddenly help get it in desert areas where there is droughts and famines.

Yeah, removing Carrier IQ is real trivial without flashing custom ROMS (sarcasm for the nerds here that don't recognize it), you know what an android jailbreak/root actually entails? And it's not trivial on all models. But the real problem is one has to lock it back down after setting it up with the single browser application that it launches straight to instead of homescreen. While possible, it's non trivial without knowing quite a bit about what android is doing behind the scenes, and I mean more than just activity's, services and intents.

But yeah, any user would know root alone is not what is needed for mount.

  10. Re:Privacy advocates are targettng the wrong thing on FAA Bill Authorizes Surveillance Drones Over US · · Score: 3, Informative

FAA has no regulations over privacy, it's not their department. FAA regulations are limited to air worthiness, traffic control, flying altitudes... And there is nothing in the current laws that stop unmanned aircraft from that standpoint (in fact, as unmanned predates manned flight technically, though it was unpowered) there have always been regulations to allow some form of unmanned aircraft.

  11. Why... on FAA Bill Authorizes Surveillance Drones Over US · · Score: 2

I mean, what is wrong with the current aviation laws in this regard, there is nothing stopping them operating unmanned aircraft under the current laws. They are fairly relaxed laws, one can fly any unmanned aircraft provided certain conditions are met (line of site, fail safe radio control, low altitude limit...), if one goes outside these regulations one must have flight worthiness certificate, registered pilot, contact air traffic control, transponders onboard... same as any other aircraft. There is nothing in the current (FAA) regulations as far as I know that would require a new bill to allow police and private companies to fly unmanned aircraft.
