We spend so much on the military and war. Why not give more to the pursute of science? If NASA was funded like our military, we would not have to worry about other countries attacking us, because we would all be living on other planets.
It is becoming increasingly hard for small businesses to do any business these days. Not because they are being crowded out by the larger ones, but because one must higher several employees just to do all the paperwork required to run a business.
Now they have to log all electronic communication. Why? How is an email or test message any different than calling someone on the phone or meeting face to face? Will we have to bring a tape recorder to every meeting from now on? When will it end?
This is welcomed news for expecting parents. They can now potentially extract DNA from embryos to determine what diseases they are likely to have. With this technology, they could discard the bad ones and keep the good ones, thus producing healthy children. This may even help thrust forward our next step of evolution.
Imagine a world full of healthy people. The cost of healthcare would reduce greatly, thus allowing us to spend more on education and furthering the advancement of the human race.
If it could be used to practically and economically extract the rest of the energy from nuclear waste, which still produces quite a bit of heat. 'Free' power for thousands of years.
In his "player_bullet::move_it()" example he should have moved all of his "[Small chunk of code.]" sections into a new function. Then, he could have called a function named "Calculate_bullets_new_position". This way, he is using the code to comment. It is much cleaner and easier to understand. Functions should rarely, if ever, have comments in them.
I am O.K. with myspace doing this, it is their right. But it is NOT their responsibility. What irks me is they were pressured into doing this through lawsuits. That is wrong. They are not forcing kids to get myspace or talk to sex offenders. Parents should be responsible for what children do online. Granted parents cannot watch every moment, but they can warn their kids about sexual offenders and how to avoid them. etc.
what they are saying is people are only generous because it feels good. That is, if it did not give them that feel good feeling, they would not be generous. Thus, everyone is generous for their own selfish purposes. Ergo, everyone is 100% selfish.
Seriously, on students? What would be the cost of such a thing? Surely a school could spend money on far more productive endeavors. Sure, it could help in an emergency, but I would rather possibly die in a fire then have to lug around some big device all day. That being said, how big are these things? What would be the consequence of not carrying one around?
Now in expensive hospital machinery, I can understand.
The trouble with this solution is customers want things to just work. They do not want to have to mess with security settings. If all scripting is disabled, people will get frustrated and blame the program instead of the file, then use a different program.
I have seen this happen with web pages and FireFox. People complain that FireFox does not work with several web pages, when in reality, those web pages (which are tailored for IE) do not work with FireFox.
It seems odd NASA would need to move so much in such a short time. Although I have no problem with there being no winners in a competition where the guidelines are set, however, once on the moon, I would imagine time is not of a great significance. The cost of getting there is far more important than the cost of the time it take to move dirt. I would be more interested in who could build the lightest machine to move rock.
Then again, as I think about it, 140 lbs is not a whole lot of rock. Doing some quick calculations if might take several months to excavate a useful cavern at that rate. Hrmm... *goes back to his calculations*
All of this red tape is making things run slower and with less efficiency. Although I am all for recording 'official communication', I think they can go too far at times. If people are going to be sending emails for fraudulent activity, then I would not exactly consider it 'official communication'. If they send emails using different accounts for the sake of convenience, then we haven't much to worry about.
The government is already far too inefficient. I say we need less red tape and fewer 'investigations'.
I agree. Unfortunately, there is not much one can do about it. Advertising is a way to make a product cheaper and the people want things to be cheep. We are slowly turning into an ad based economy where payment is now offered in the form of ad space. People are already selling their bodies as ad space. I admit it is getting rather ridiculous. But we will continue on this path until we can find a more profitable solution. Companies do follow the profits you know.
We have hypothesised about caves on other planets but have not seen any until this point. The fantastic thing is not that there are caves on Mars, but the fact that we may have found them. This new find could drastically change our future missions to Mars.
The last major eruption in SE Asia basically caused there to be no summer in Europe, meaning major crop failures just about everywhere. Yes, that is what I mean by a change of pace. Granted, it might not be desirable, but right now, I could use a change of pace. Any change would be a good change...:/
Do not be scared. An eruption is not due for at least another several hundred years. This hotspot is just grumblinb a little. Even if it does erupt any time soon, it will be a nice change of pace.
"The textbook model for a normal fault is not what's happening at the Teton fault," They have not been studing faults long enough to determin if this is normal or not. It very well could be both sides of the fault move both up AND down. In the long run, one will eventually overtake the other, but for now, it slowly ripples.
We have one Windows machine here used for testing. The rest are Linux. Technically all of these Linux machines cost more than that one Windows machine. So I suppose I too could say my Windows environment costs less than my Linux environment.
If those are my only two options, it was likely bit error rate. I was not on the edge, but I was not close either. Plus, there was a decent amount of interference. All this could have been avoided with n.
Even for gamers, where the multiplayer gaming protocols are optimized for ordinary cablemodem connections (and even dialup still for some), you're still not going to flood that 54 Mbps connection. I disagree. I had a wireless hub hooked up to a cable modem so we did not have to run a cable though the house. The wireless connection did slow me down a bit. It would have been nice to have a faster connection so my ping could be on par with the other player. Those few extra milliseconds can and often do mean the difference between life and death. Because of my high ping rates I became discouraged when it came to playing games and instead turned to my studies and other activities. Now I have a great paying job and I am quite healthy and financially successful. I never meant for this to happen, I just wanted to play games and have fun and I was robbed of such a life by wireless... damn you wireless, damn you!
Do not take any 'gadgets' with you. You will not need them. You will not miss them. You are planning to backpack around the world. Why? To experience the world? Then do so. Gadgets will only distract you from that experience. Mp3 players and iPods are a horrible idea. You will miss the sounds of the world. Even the little seemingly meaningless sounds can be profound in there own ways. Having headphones on or looking at a digital screen all day will make you unapproachable and you will not get to experience the culture as much as you would otherwise. Bring a digital camera if you must, but be careful not to use it too much. With digital cameras people have a tendency to experience the world through the camera's LCD and not with their own eyes. Forget about gadgets, go out, touch, feel, taste and experience the world.
... maybe this next round of evidence will have to be not only beyond anything we know but also beyond anything we know how to know. What does that even mean? As if it is so complex we would not be able to understand it if we were given all the details. This sounds like an explanation for God. "God is so beyond our understanding there is no way we will ever understand him. So we might as well just accept and believe in him."
That "someone" put her through a lot of needless emotional pain. Perhpas that "someone" will now think twice before so carelessly hurting others, thus making this world a better place for all. Some might even say Lisa is a hero among heros.
As for the diapers. Well, that is so you can drive non stop. Duh.

can be used as a tool to 'hack', are they going to outlaw computers too?

Go ahead, try to follow my logic. I dare you.

See? It is all perfectly rational.
listening to her side of the story?
