The US is responsible for 25% of all carbon emissions yet it has only 5% of the world population. Can you imagine what the world would be like if the chinese, for example, were as 'clean' as the US?
This isn't discrimination, it's monkey politics.
The boss has achieved alfa status and doesn't
want to loose face to a younger male he knows
is smarter than he is. You can tell who's alfa
in an organization by finding out who has their
back tapped most often; the runner up is the
one who women seek most to talk to. Observe
your office and then go to the zoo to watch the
monkeys; it's really funny to see how similar
the behaviours are.
I really doubt we could destroy ALL life on this planet. We could destroy lots of it, and ourselves in the process, but not sterilize the planet!
And mutating viri are not really a problem for nature! They are to us, but were not really
a long term concern for nature!!
What Id reaaaally like is for public schools in Brazil to start teaching maths and sciences properly, and to have something we could actually call a library. If you have that, then you dont
really need much to teach cs.
The University of Santa Maria (UFSM/Brazil-RS) had (maybe still has) a great computer course for kids, based on MSXs!
I propose that we dont leave it up to the companies who sell it; thats what this discussion is all about.
If its simply left for 'the invisible hand
of the market', then well end up with 5 gigantic companies deciding which 5 songs well hear this week.
We could have a simple solution, like limiting the
number of times a song can be played on a station
on any given day. This might seem restrictive, but would actually make room for diversity.
I suppose the fact that macdonalds originated in the worlds most belicose country is of no importance. Oh, Im sorry, the US doesnt go to war, it executes 'military interventions'. They are such a peaceful lot.
Usually, the people who shoot themselves in the foot are those that dont care about design.
Ive seen projects where people program right from an ER.
The fact that Perl and C++ have so many features
is irrelevant if youve designed a good system and thought about when and how you are going to use them.
Say I wrote a book or a song, and decided I should
earn 10% of all sales; anyone should be able to publish it as long as they paid me my royalties, and Id have to give everyone the same deal.
The customer would benefit from the competition, inventors/creators would still become filthy rich and nobody would be able to hold back some new technology if it hurts their current business model.
I dont see how they could enforce such a law, but if they found a way, OSS developers could run to China or Brazil, where the governments actually support this kind of criminal activity.
Well, you got the point.
If things keep evolving the way they are now, well soon be paying royalties to breathe.
Its obvious that copyright laws are no longer written in the interest of society, as all laws should be.
You should see the addresses that mail workers in remote parts of Brazil have to decipher! They're of the 'over the hill, across the river, three kilometers down...' quality.
WTH has the IOCC to do with the Open Source
movement??
If you cant understand people wanting just
wanting to have fun, shoot your sorry self.
I bet you have a hobby other people would
consider silly.
Could it be because not so long ago
people usually didnt live
beyond 40?
>We don't suffer from hearing loss.
Unless you're in a room full of SGIs+old air conditioning+a couple of Crays nextdoor
A look at the numbers reveals that in relative terms the US isnt much better than China and is almost twice as dirty as europe.

Do you really think the US would be so zealous
of the IP rights of others if it was the developing nation?
Do you really think the US does not participate
in industrial espionage?
Doesn't the US have import barriers??
I thought nobody could be more narrow minded than
Bush, whose line of politics is `we and our friends are good, the rest is evil`.
This isn't discrimination, it's monkey politics.

Youll still be safe from 99.99% of humanity.
A crazy Brazilian called Amir Klink rowed from Africa to Brazil by himself.
I hope they dont have it in them to start charging royalties from those who get sick. Oops, maybe I shouldnt have bought it up!

I think a society that really wishes to improve itself shouldnt treat the art it produces simply as business.
Not so. The GDP per capita of the US is roughly 35k.
Which means a family of 4 has an average income of 140k. 35k is not pathetic at all, the fact that the USs wealth is so badly distributed is.
Thats what it does! You can buy a recorder for the price of 15-20 CDs. So it pays for itself in no time.

Id like to see this applied to everything.

So tomorrow Ford will demand royalties from Hertz.

Even if this were always true, wouldnt the benefit of a cleaner, better documented and mantainable code outweigh the cost of the added cpu cicles??
For most projects, human resources are very expensive when compared do hardware requirements.
