  2. I was about to pay several million dollars to pass my son off as the world's greatest collegiate hockey prospect (except he can't skate and is in his 40s) when I saw this Slashdot article. Now I've done something even better: I signed him up at the University Of American Samoa for a law degree! Go Land Crabs!

  8. Devuan for sure! Interestingly, MX Linux (steadily climbing up DistroWatch's page hit rankings to #2 at present) allows installation without systemd, but I don't know whether MX has gone to the extent of Devuan in actually ripping it out or just working around it.

    When Blackberry purchased QNX, they intended that the auto industry would be fertile new soil for that terrific real time OS. Years later, the rise of Automotive Grade Linux seems to indicate that the QNX platform has had some sort of impediments that are likely non-technical, perhaps to do with licensing?

    More like failed at nothing, since the demo asks: "...what's the product we're providing in this research? It is a sample augmentation system that is provided to augment computer system development. In addition the aim is to provide tools for generating further, improved augmentation systems--bootstrapping." -- THE DEMO

    They had a whole lotta revolutionary stuff (for 1968) to demonstrate first before boring themselves and everyone else with navel-gazing about potential futures of computing. Failed at nothing.

    There are competing definitions of the altitude at which one is actually in "space". Some organizations (i.e. USAF) say 80km, some (international records-keeping bodies) say 100km.

    So, who amongst geeks or hardware hackers needs Amazon or official Apple Macbooks? Refurbished Macbooks are aplenty on ebay, as always. Similarly, macos Mojave works on cheap linux-using laptops in vmware with some tweaking.

    Are the powerful, white, greying power elites really that mobile that they'd up and move to another state? It happens, but not the way you're imagining. A smart person would check out the lay of the land before making a knee-jerk, anger-based life change.
