Mr Freeze is the best idea! He's got a decent backstory, they could fit his "powers" and "theme" into the more realistic framework of this set of films, and they basically have to do everything opposite from how it was in Batman & Robin. Instead of a bodybuilder, they need a nerdy science guy, instead of hamming it up with bad one liners, he hardly needs to talk at all, instead of being maniacally angry, he's the man with the frozen heart. They dealt with how society is not equipped to deal with evil like the Joker, or how if you want to deal with the Joker, we can't allow you in society, or something like that. The evil that society does to it's members is one logical next step. Bonus points if Wayne Enterprises, not the gov't, is the organization that shuts down Dr. Freeze and kills his wife?

Wow.. that was soooo difficult. I had to open up synaptic, THEN I had to search for packages that had titles or descriptions with the word "podcast" in them, THEN I had to look at SEVERAL of the options it gave me before I checked a couple that looked hopeful and clicked install... THEN I had to like... try the programs out to see what they DID??? I would much prefer either paying someone a wad of cash to give me an equivalent program that would require the same amount of time to drive to the store and install. The alternative Windows AddOn Installation Method is also preferable, the one where you spend an hour on google and assorted sites trying to find a program that will do what you want, that was updated in the last 6 years, that isn't a horrible worm hungry for your computer's tender innards. To sum up, I sarcastically submit that the standard Linux practice of centralizing the entire process of application installation (finding the app, installing the app) is BAD, and it's much better to break the process down into many different parts and divvy them up at random, often to people who don't talk to each other or know that they're working on the same thing.

I fail to see how this is a setback for Microsoft. They still get their license fees from XP (though this is China, you never know). More importantly, any time you see an athlete using a computer, or anyone using a private terminal, won't they be using Vista? I betcha any sponsorship the games get from Microsoft will be branded "sponsored by Microsoft Vista," not "sponsored by Microsoft Vista (but jokes on you guys we're really using XP for our back end stuff here at the games)"

Eventually, if everyone squirts enough music, we'll all be waist deep in music goo. That's the utopia Microsoft and Elton want for us.

I'd always heard it used to describe the same people (Rummy, Wolfowitz, Perle, etc) that Reagan apparently thought of as "the crazies in the basement." The Project for a New American Century is what I think most would describe as the core of the neo-conservative movement. Basically, they think the world is better off under American leadership, and its ok to use pretty much any means to preserve that leadership indefinitely. It's a more militaristic, jingoistic extension of the neo-liberal movement, which is all about economic globalization and whatnot.

Frys, OTOH, does not. Heh. Our highest ranked salespeople (during the 2 months I was there) were a couple of guys that spoke with thick accents and put service plans on people's orders, pretending not to understand them if they asked not to get one. If they had their wits about them, the customer would catch it at the front register and have it taken off, but enough didn't that it apparently was worthwhile.
This was frowned on and discouraged by the managers.

Meh, one man's scam is another man's luxury. We had a 30-day no questions asked money back thing, then there might be a manufacturer's warranty. Some people would be happy with that. Thing about manufacturer's warranties, you have to ship the thing to them, then they ship you a new thing back. Some people don't want that, and are willing to pay $130 extra or whatever to be able to trade it in at the store, just like they'd pay $130 to have "better" speakers. I'm just puzzled by some of the extra venom against this particular way retailer's make money. Hell, we made the PS3 3-day-fanboys buy a $1200 "value combo."

Also, you forgot 2 big factors in that equation: peace_of_mind and convenience. I worked at a Fry's for a while, and it most often seemed that people bought the service plan for those last two reasons, not because they thought they were going to come out on top monetarily somehow.

There are only two reasons MS would come out and say this - general FUD, to try and keep enterprise-type customers worried about switching, or because they're actually getting worried.
My instinct is that the former is the case, but with project like Ubuntu doing so well, and getting rave reviews, while Vista seems... crappy, for lack of a better word, I'm not sure I can rule out the latter case.
