    50 milliseconds less latency? That would be a difficult task, since an NT server running quake2 on a lan will result in a 7 or 8 ms quake ping between the NT server and the win9x clients.

    actually i believe getadmin.exe is a local exploit.

    It works the other way around too! Most administrators, when asked if their network is secure, reply "of course, we're behind a firewall." There's almost always a way to get code executed on a system, even if you cant do it directly. Once that happens, your firewall is useless.

    My Linux box currently has 218 day uptime on it and not a twinge of instability!

    hmm...so does my NT box....what does our bragging prove? nothing, so why do we bother making these comments?

    Anyone who breaks into NT without ever having run it on a system must be a script kiddie. How can you know all the complicated in's and out's of a windows system without ever seeing them?

    What kind of hacker wouldn't have an install of the most widely used software on the net? Would he want to limit himself to being able to only break into *nix systems? Hackers need to know every operating system they can.

    Please don't compare the security model in windows9x to anything. It was made for home users, and to be backward compatible with DOS programs written in the early 80's. Microsoft has said this from the begining (although you have to look in the right places to find this info.)

    There is a way to prevent windows explorer (basically the windows GUI) from loading. I've done it with games before, on old hardware to save RAM. Basically with a quick registry hack, you boot up and load another executable instead of explorer.exe. Drivers, networking and services all load the same as usual.

    I let one of my 35 year old buddies get my badge for me. He just said he forgot his ID, and the lady said "Oh, well you look at older than 21" Ya, they hire the bright ones. Funny though, I never saw anyone who looked even near my age.
