I fail to believe that Windows 8 has a gas pedal. It just has brakes on the left and right.

I made a little two row table, and busted it out by hand. After about 3 minutes, I was filling in faster than I could work the table. I imagine it's how ancient crypto's felt when they teased out "Ceasar attacks at dove" and then realized they'd injected an error. What is a Biggs Hoson?

  4. Supplemental CAC Screening, anyone? on Fighting TSA Harassment of Disabled Travelers · · Score: 2

I just love the TSA. They sent my CAC card back through the X-ray machine, all alone, in the little tray. It was in my wallet and had set off a wand. For those of you unfamiliar with the CAC, it's a MILITARY I.D. Card that tells people you're in the Armed Services. It has a little 'not-so-smart' metal chip and card-reader plate. Seeing my I.D. card take it's lonely journey through the x-ray machine brought tears to my eyes. Tears of laughter. And that laughter hurt them more than any indignation I might have shown.

Finally another use for the Hughes Glomar Explorer, a ship built in the 70's under the guise of underwater mining but actully used by the CIA to raise a sunken sub. My daily dose of Irony is now complete.

  6. Miners Know on Earthquakes Deposit Gold In Fault Zones · · Score: 5, Interesting

When I was younger, we'd explore the old 1800's silver mines at Alta, Utah. When the old miners hit a fault line (underground), they'd span out and mine that fault for all it was worth. It was pretty neat for us finding a rock face perfectly smooth and straight (the fault), that had been stoped out a hundred years ago, miles underground. It was like going back in time. In hindsight, it was probably dangerous... Ah, youth.

  10. HMSS Mesh on Connecting Android Phones Without Carrier Networks · · Score: 1

This concept is very much like HMSS ad-hock mesh networks used in ham radio. Self-discovering, auto-configuration, and self-healing. Except we use old linksys routers, instead of cell phones, and operate under different FCC rules. YMMV

  12. Progression and Risk on Iran Says It Sent Monkey Into Space and Back · · Score: 1

When the U.S. sent chimps into space (Ham, Enos) it was to test the effects of weightlessness on a living body, because scientists really thought that it might harm humans. Therefore, test on a chimp first to see if it's safe for man. So why start a new program at the bottom? Why not design a man-rated system from the get-go? The science is proven, if all you're after is political mileage, man-up and send a man up.
