That's a pretty inept thought to have. Why would a blockbuster game release only to a minor installed base and ignore a huge installed base? It would be like releasing bioshock to linux and not XP.

Microsoft has released Vista only games, "catering to a minor installed base and ignoring a huge installed base." Shadowrun and Halo 2 are examples.

Knowing that, it's perfectly reasonable to have a little doubt about whether any particular new release will work on Windows. Having a "games for Windows" stamp, evidently meaning the Microsoft seal of approval, naturally exacerbates that fear.

It looks like they are assuming that if a PC is connected to the internet, that all electricity consumed by that pc, monitor, etc., is directly attributable to the internet. Pretty blatantly false, if that's what they're doing. Presumably the group doing this study benefits from exaggerating this statistic in someway.

That is not what Ron Paul says. He does not believe there is any conspiracy with the US government behind the terrorist attacks, just that our government's incompetence made it easier for them.

I'm a Paul supporter, also, and I'm sure you're trying to help. But, seriously, support from conspiratorialists helps Ron Paul about as much as support from the Communist party helps David Kucinich.

My favorite version of 'loser pays' is that the loser is liable for legal fees, up to the lesser of the amounts either party paid.

So, if a big company sues an individual, and wins, the loser is only liable for as much as they themselves spent on the case. I think it would encourage parties in a lawsuit to spend amounts more equitably, unless one side is absolutely convinced they will be successful.

Any good FPS player will tell you that the controls on a PC are superior. The mouse and keyboard player will always beat the equally skilled console player. So why don't Microsoft and Sony release mouse and keyboard controls for their consoles?

I would correct that somewhat: The best controls for a FPS are a high-resolution pointer in one hand, and an array of accessible buttons in the other. It doesn't have to be a mouse/keyboard combo. The Wii comes close, but I'm not convinced the wiimote is precise and fast enough to completely replace a mouse. However, I think something could be built that's much improved over a keyboard.

There seems to be some reluctance by console manufacturers to sell keyboard/mouse combos for consoles; maybe they don't want to open that whole can of worms. But some sort of FPS interface controller could be sold, that had the same functionality but was more focused on console gameplay.

Fundamentally, these licenses are both primarily about redistribution. They seem [slightly] contradictory to me, meaning that license A OR B is in effect, not A AND B. It seems like the basic point of disagreement in this thread is over that distinction.

I think that if license 'B' is chosen, license 'A' is never activated, never applied, completely irrelevant. License B says that the source can be redistributed only with conditions of B attached.

I agree with another poster that said this would have been not a problem if the source had been posted twice, once with the BSD license, once with the GPL. But shouldn't a dual license be logically equivalent?

This is the same population that buys used television sets for $15 at Goodwill or yard sales... and put up with the crappy picture because they can't afford a better screen.
