It's a selling point for me. Most forms of exercise are incredibly boring. If it can be combined with entertainment, it won't be such an inconvenience setting aside 30 minutes here and there to do it. Hell, if I'm on a streak, maybe I'll put in an hour. It's not that I hate exercise; it just takes time away from doing something interesting.
Sorry, but the Wii won this generation by a wide margin... and it was because the console was about providing a fun experience, not about cutting edge graphics with HD resolution and BluRay storage formats.
Yeah, this was a good example of a slashdot summary that posted an outright falsehood as if it was obvious truth. Cars are better than horses, cities are cleaner, they smell nicer... there IS progress, the world today is better in most ways than the world of the past.
Go back a few centuries and show today's world to an average person. They'll beg to come back to the 21st century with you.
True. A handheld gaming console is designed AROUND the controls; it's probably more important than graphics. Most mobile phones would be terrible for playing games, even if they had the equivalent of a PS3 condensed inside.
There's a reason Nintendo dominates the market; they are sticking to the idea that consoles (and handhelds) should be for playing games, and other uses are secondary. There's also a reason that Sony failed miserably this gen, and it closely follows...
Yeah, it does read a bit like a disguised product announcement.
However, I have to defend FOSS software on a closed operating system. It's perfectly feasible, just as running proprietary software on a FOSS operating system. The two simply don't exclude the other.
I think your numbers FAR exaggerate the number of lunatics, and even if it wasn't, people who gladly accept rockets and explosives while spouting how they want to overthrow the government and commit mass murder... might justifiably be viewed a threat.
Seriously? Apple's quicktime player is terrible; I'd rather use even microsoft's media player than that. Every bit of software I've ever seen from apples is just a mess (including iTunes). Granted, that's probably because I'm seeing it run on Windows... I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, and assume that it works better on a mac. Nearly any of the decent free players (mplayer classic, vlc) both perform better, and are less frustrating to use.
Wow, so people suffering from post traumatic stress disorder after having to watch people ripped apart by bullets, or those who have phobias from traumatic experiences as kids, or weird chemical issues causing manic/bipolar or just 'regular' depression, OCD, epilepsy etc etc are simply just morons because they need pills to try to live 'normal' lives like you?
It might be worth noting that some people do experience those traumatic events WITHOUT being traumatized. They have strong and healthy psyches, for whatever reason. When a person is suffering from some sort of mental problem, one of the first and most important questions should be "can they be made psychologically healthy enough to resolve the problem?" That is really the only sense in which a mental illness can ever be said to be cured.
However, often it is not possible to reach that point, at least immediately. Drugs can ameliorate the symptoms, and sometimes are the only reasonable alternative. Perhaps a depressed person, with enough effort, habit changes, etc., could beat the depression; but a severely depressed person isn't going to TRY. Drugs may help in that sort of situation.
In general, the warmer periods in Earth's history coincide with a vigorous growth in the biosphere. More energy is available. Yeah, we lose Texas. but we gain large swaths of Canada and Siberia.
Just remember: Change isn't always bad. Climate change might be bad, might be good; most likely it will be a mix.
"Ultimate" Marvel is a different universe, created so grim/edgy/dark/Kool versions of superheroes can do things like... kill hundreds of innocent people. It has no more effect on the REAL Hulk than a What-If? story would.
Does the custom version of Windows CE allow users to run the apps of their choice? If so, this seems OBVIOUSLY better than any of Apple's products. The 'thousands' of programs in the Apple App Store will be surpassed in six months, if the new Zune is not locked down like an Apple product.
The Zune always had really good hardware. It had some silly restrictions (like on WiFi), and terrible marketing. Compare that to the iPod/iPhone, which is good hardware, silly restrictions, and great marketing...
Despite the fearmongering by the authorities, the hulk never killed an innocent person, and hordes of supervillains were left destroyed in his wake. That's serving the good.
Canonically, this is because of the constant presence of Bruce Banner's subconscious restraints.
Wow. First off... how sad to be a loyal supporter of a corporate entity.
Secondly; the PS3 is at 22mil wordwide sales, compared to 30 mil for the 360, and about 50 mill for the Wii. In the US, the situation is worse; about 8.5 mil PS3, compared to about 17 mill 360s.
The PS3 has rebounded, to an extent. Eighteen months ago it looked like it would be an embarrassing failure for Sony; now, it is at least competitive. It will probably never catch up with 360 sales wordwide; it certainly will never catch up in the US. That is a HUGE failure for a company that was the undisputed leader of the last two console generations; although Sony execs like to blather on about how they are still the market leader (keeping fanboys like you happy), there is no doubt they are tremendously disappointed how this gen turned out.
The blessing is, that when Sony announces their next console, it might be significantly better. The occasional failure tends to put a company back on the right track. (By better, I don't mean more powerful; nobody complains the PS3 isn't powerful enough. I mean with a price point and features that consumers want, and a renewed focus on actual games.)
Skill influences the odds, but it's RELATIVE skill. A great player competing against five other great players has the same chance of winning as a terrible player competing against five terrible players.
Since _EVERYBODY_, slashdotters included, overrates their own skill, I think the smart money for most people should go into a different investment.
Right. A normal customer will think: "Is there ANY program I will want to run, EVER, that will require Windows?" Since the answer is almost certainly yes, they will almost certainly purchase a netbook with Windows. The only way Linux wins that competition is to either have compelling apps that are better than Windows, or be significantly cheaper.
This is proof that corporations that arise from your beloved "market" can be every bit as evil and draconian as the government.
Nope. If it was the government, they would just not let you use any alternative, and shoot you if you resisted. Yes, companies screw up and are evil; but they have the right to be, just like individuals. However, they have nowhere near the license to use force, deadly force, that the government has.
Partially. If the company could simply make up a lost million dollars by raising prices, they would have done it already. Prices will be set, as closely as possible, to maximize profit; if prices are raised, profit will decrease. What would probably happen is a mix of a price increase to make up part of the loss, and the dividends to shareholders going down to make up the other part, splitting the pain.
And, of course, executive compensation wouldn't be touched at all.
I'm a fervent free market capitalist, but that doesn't mean that I support the way current corporate law exists. Treating a corporation as a virtual entity, with rights, is an abomination; and the massive amount of laws and codes controlling the way corporations function vastly unbalance and impede the market.

er, because a 42 inch computer flat panel will cost far more than a 1080p LCD of the same size??
Why? They're the exact same, except a computer flat panel has simpler electronics (doesn't need a tuner).
It's such a nice looking boot...

If the consumer thought it was a bad game, he would have probably asked for a refund even if it was only ten cents. Price paid is kind of irrelevant.
I think pretending the consumer is 'confused' about how much he values the game may just distract you from what really happened.
Well, they have tones, hues, and textures. Flavors and scents aren't THAT farfetched. Although the fart apps will really suck, then.
As a consumer, a cheap but shoddy knockoff product with tons of patent violations and little DRM is EXACTLY what I want.
Yeah, it does read a bit like a disguised product announcement.

Are you sure that it's detrimental?

We just up our deforestation, if that becomes a problem.

The person that hires you has the right to decide what they're hiring you for. You have the right to decline.
The government can force you not to decline. You don't understand the difference?
