Yeah, that pretty well covers piracy, so I don't know exactly what you're trying to prove.

A lot of people hated Spore, I think they're smoking crack. I enjoyed it. I think it might have to do with expectations, though: I've always felt Will Wright was rather overrated as a designer (SimCity aside, cause that was amazing), so I didn't buy into any of the game's hype. If you did buy into it, though, I can see how you might have felt let down.

Or does WotC fear that people could find out their latest edition sucks even more than the previous ones and people refuse to buy it entirely, and stick with AD&D 2nd forever?

Not possible. 2E was a steaming pile of shit, the game only got good with 3E.

Why do people insist on calling piracy theft?

Because it fits the definition of theft: taking something that doesn't belong to you. At no point does the definition of theft require that the good not be in its owner's grasp any more, it just says you're taking what doesn't belong to you.

Or, if you prefer a more snarky version: because we're not trying to play idiotic word games to justify our desire for free stuff.

There are plenty of alcoholics out there, and alcohol (and damn near anything with alcohol in it) tastes like pure shit. Caffeine products, by contrast, usually don't taste that bad (although pure caffeine probably does). It's hardly surprising on the basis of taste.

Yep, use that for your server. Do yourself a favor and use something other than Spark for the client, however. We use Openfire/Spark at my company, and while the server is solid and workable, the client is pure shit. It's slow and buggy as hell. Use Pidgin, Miranda, or whatever multi-protocol client you prefer, but not Spark.

Exactly. This decision is best left in the hands of the government's IT staff, not lawmakers who probably don't have a damn clue about the technology they're drafting legislation on.

Furthermore, legislating that they don't do business with a company is just a bad idea in general... what's to stop a company from bribing lawmakers to pass legislation forbidding state agencies from buying its competitor's product?

No, you misunderstand what they're saying. They're talking about the amount of work which is accomplished, not how long you're working. So, they're saying those who never surf do x amount of work. However, those who surf for 20% of their day (or less) do 1.09*x work. Even though they spend less time working, they get more done, thus they're more productive

I thought the Star Wars prequels were quite good, actually. Episode I was questionable, but overall, they were even better than the originals. The only thing the originals had was the special effects, which the prequels did better. The prequels also added a story which was actually interesting, unlike the giant cliche that was in the original trilogy.

Quite simply, I really think there's no reason to rip on the Star Wars prequels.
