    Doesn't seem like there'd much extra risk to making the files available over the network once you've made them available on DVD-R.

    Try XnView as an ACDSee replacement. It's free as in beer and though not a polished inferface it'll open anything including paged tiffs. Much better than the warmed over crap that comes with XP.

    No fancy equipement required. Just fire up an old laser jet (III prefered) and print out a couple hundred pages. Ozone to spare.

    Not really. You are not required to copy a compy CD if you want to make a mix and You don't need to copy an entire book when you transfer it to Microfiche.

    You authorize your computer to play the file and up to 3 others. "Oh, no - DRM! Agh!" I know, but hey, we can compromise a little here, right? Just like iTunes: up to 3 computers can play the file, and unlimited handhelds. If you just want to drag-n-drop the file into your portable video iPod or whatever without "licensing" it over the Internet, that just means you can't watch it on your machine.

    Comprimising with the RIAA/MPAA is like comprmising with a book burner. Sooner or later (usually sooner) they will be back asking to burn more books.

    Very good summary. I'm usually a lot less restrained when someone uses theft instead of copyright infringement; my first impulse is to slap them silly but that doesn't transfer to electrons very well.

    I keep my datebook in a pocket spiral bound notebook I picked up in a drugstore for $.69. I find it superiour technology for the task. Pen ready and everything.

    Hard to grep a dead tree though.

    Prodigy wasn't too bad; at least you still had to pay. The marketing "genius" at AOL that started handing out free hours like air should be taken out behind the barn and be horribly beaten.

    We'' Firebird is only a 16MB program and requires no installation. Throw it on a USB Flash drive and go to town.

    One problem with replacing IE with anything else is that some vendors code dialogs/help files etc. to IE and nothing else works. Have anything else but IE and the program won't run.

    Only allow certain clients (IE) to access the challenge/CAPTCHA. This way you know the referrer isn't forged. This discards both the script and the zombie fetching the challenges.

    Can't be done. Remember you cannot trust the client. My proxy nicely maskes the referrer info from my custom browser.
