Try XnView as an ACDSee replacement. It's free as in beer and though not a polished inferface it'll open anything including paged tiffs. Much better than the warmed over crap that comes with XP.
Not really. You are not required to copy a compy CD if you want to make a mix and You don't need to copy an entire book when you transfer it to Microfiche.
You authorize your computer to play the file and up to 3 others. "Oh, no - DRM! Agh!" I know, but hey, we can compromise a little here, right? Just like iTunes: up to 3 computers can play the file, and unlimited handhelds. If you just want to drag-n-drop the file into your portable video iPod or whatever without "licensing" it over the Internet, that just means you can't watch it on your machine.
Comprimising with the RIAA/MPAA is like comprmising with a book burner. Sooner or later (usually sooner) they will be back asking to burn more books.
Very good summary. I'm usually a lot less restrained when someone uses theft instead of copyright infringement; my first impulse is to slap them silly but that doesn't transfer to electrons very well.
That's because Jackson's extra's are good and Lucas's, for the most part, suck. IE Lucas needs to listen to his editor and hire one if he doesn't have one.
"So we went to Atari and said, 'Hey, we've got this amazing thing, even built with some of your parts, and what do you think about funding us? Or we' ll give it to you. We just want to do it. Pay our salary, we'll come work for you.' And they said, 'No.' So then we went to Hewlett-Packard, and they said, 'Hey, we don't need you. You haven't got through college yet.'"

Prodigy wasn't too bad; at least you still had to pay. The marketing "genius" at AOL that started handing out free hours like air should be taken out behind the barn and be horribly beaten.
We'' Firebird is only a 16MB program and requires no installation. Throw it on a USB Flash drive and go to town.
One problem with replacing IE with anything else is that some vendors code dialogs/help files etc. to IE and nothing else works. Have anything else but IE and the program won't run.
Only allow certain clients (IE) to access the challenge/CAPTCHA. This way you know the referrer isn't forged. This discards both the script and the zombie fetching the challenges.
Can't be done. Remember you cannot trust the client. My proxy nicely maskes the referrer info from my custom browser.
Doesn't seem like there'd much extra risk to making the files available over the network once you've made them available on DVD-R.
They got to make a back lit model M. Otherwise I'm sticking with my 80's keyboard

It's amazing how bad Window's access control is when you consider how good VAX's was.
