all versions you by right now have SP2 integrated. you possibly can't get any LEGAL box consisting of XP "pre-alpha", as it was shipped in 2001. so it's no box-to-box, as you won't be able to buy a 2006-XP without SP2 integrated. as i said: if you wanted to make a comparison like that, take a 2001-red hat, compare those two and then: update all the patches of every year, check again and so on. i'm quite sure XP would not in any way actually WIN this comparison, but this is the only way to go to have any sense in this comparison: either take a XP SP2 as shipped or take a redhat as shipped in 2001.
for sure it should be tested. and as you said: at least as shipped by now with SP2 pre-installed. that's what comparisons are for: take the available product and compare it to another available product. XP really HAS a bad security record, there's no point in arguing that, but this is no news, it's widely known.
... i'm no M$-fanboy at all, but testing a 2001-XP against a end-2006 fedora is not actually making any sense. install a 2001-red hat to compare and then tell me the numbers. i'm quite sure that there are no breaches as severe as the lsass or rpc/dcom stuff, but this comparison just doesn't make any sense...
...i liked the LOTR books much, because it was just fantastic to see the world evolve just in my head, with all that incredible creatures, races and so on. to me, tho whole spirit of LOTR is based upon "living it" inside my mind. so - the movies came out and i wasn't all too overhappy, even though they were indeed watchable - without killing the fantasies, that i made up when i first read the book.
but now, with all these games, merchandise, etc: i truly believe that this is not doing any good to the spirit of the whole story, even more to the books. it totally changes the reception of the book if you were to play with a little gimli or another comrade as a child. all this process of making up the characters, their looks is totally gone.
now reading something like "Sims 2" (even if it's only the engine) in an article to a LOTR game sends chills down my spine.
okay, not a very geeky opinion, you're allowed to mod me down;)
...just how motivated would YOU be if you got fired one day and - in lack of alternatives - apply for the same job again, but for a lower salary. this just must result in an extensive drop of service quality.
and because you're so damned concentrated on protecting your macbook, you get totally lost in the city and then wish that all you brought with you would be a map. great, duh.
you even could look up the latest papers on paranoia, duh...
did i miss the point where TFA mentioned publishing classified information? nobody wants to publish the construction plans of the latest AntiWeapenOfMassDestructionWeaponOfMassDestruction (AWOMDWOMD(tm))...
it can be automated. looking for particular actors faces should be possible. in the uk we have face recognition systems for cctv. it would not be impossible to go through uploaded videos looking for actors faces.
but could changing the aspect ratio not fool that system? for face recognition in the streets, ok... noone changes his face to 16:9 for a change;) and even if that would work - not every clip of, say, george clooney is copyrighted, filmed public appearences for example. either this video is "censored" by fault, or you still need a lot of manual work...
...;)
as TFA mentions, this process of cheching for copyrighted material ist not automated.
i wonder, is there e technical/software based/automated possibility to check contents at all, except for watermarks, etc, embedded in the video? i can't think of any (that's possibly the cause for my being not a millionaire)

sure - i understand the frustration that's driving him. and i guess the MoPHPb will wake some folks up, hopefully the devs. but it'll wake up script-kiddies, too. in fact, that's what i fear most, it might only wake up the script kiddies, as the devs didn't seem to care in the past and that leaves more than thirty unpatched publicly documented security holes and a few folks, who need to run php. what a lot of fun...

but why the heck is a lobbyist group involved? yeah, sure. they could give a speech on the matters of piracy and on how we all are doomed if we don't stop the uberevil pirates of the world from ruining markets, margins and stuff. they could even hand out some flyers. a nice powerpoint showing, err, well... facts and figures. but - as a lobbyist group - they should NOT be allowed to tangle with trainings. that's the moment when all parties involved should stand up and state: "nice for coming, folks, thanks for the freebies and now get the f* outta here"

duh.

SQL Server was one of their better products for a long time.
The code base for MS SQL Server (prior to version 7.0) originated in Sybase SQL Server - yeah, they "bought" that one, too...

lemme guess - some folks don't give a f* what's illegal? there HAS to be a reason.
