Sad to see an informed opinion like yours modded down so heavily. It seems that the US doesn't even need a government sponsored censorship agency when the vast majority of people are knee jerkers wel programmed by corporate media.
Really, I have heard lots of arguments for and against Putins actions in the Ukraine.
This is not a black and white issue. And it is really not our responsibility that Ukraine mismanaged their government. Yes we urged them to disband their forces. But even if Ukraine had kept full military strength. They'd still be in the same position, if not worse anyway.
The U.S. shouldn't be telling Russia what to do. We should be assisting in relief/refugee rescue at this point unless the U.N. asks them to intervene.
The article hinted at containing and controlling the pathogen and the ecosystem. IMO a wholesale waste of effort for a few people who, really are more of a symptom of our medicine and cultural practices. No they don't deserve to die, and yes it's good they know not to go to California, but that is not how the article nor the slashdot summary was spun.
You mean the wholesale destruction of marine ecosystems via fertalizer and horrible pesticides like DDT and Chlordane. And to respond to AC's comment below:
We did not need the green revolution to survive and create sustainable food and good life. That was sold to you by people with money and power and now is justified in the name of all the ungrateful greedy assholes who think they are entitled to heart bypass surgery after years of sugary hamburger buns.
IDGAF about burgers. I give a fuck about living an ideologically moral and ethical life and improving our condition and I will speak up against that which is both scientifically and spiritually fucked.
There's a difference between military might, military dictatorships, and a strong cultural propensity for the martial arts.
I'm not sure what we stand to gain from making ourselves the largest and possibly most unwieldy (yes we can project force all over, but at what cost and how easy is it to disrupt us?) force on the planet.
I've read through most of this thread. I believe it does take more than a strong central military to hold a society together. Needless to say. I am speaking in terms of endurance and stability over large stretches of time. Modern society is still relatively young and going through lots of growing pains. We probably kill each other more on a regular basis violently than we did in the past overall. Just in a much more dynamic, indirect and less nationalistic way. But I haven't really sat down and looked at the numbers or have done any research to specifically back up that idea.
Agreed, 7 years and the power to seek reparation or damages. Not 33 years in prison and a lifetime of renewing the same old bullshit over and over by repurchasing and re branding and extending and lobbying.
I never said it was wrong to have a monopoly. Just that these monopolies have created powerful beasts which are seeking to further erode and destroy the rights of others.
p.s. ps this isn't a testosterone fueled rant, about warrior races, this is coming from someone who is out and proud of who they are and unafraid of their speech still.
we could stand to learn a lot from independent more decentralized cultures from all over the world if they were studied as such, but they are put down as primitive and backwards in history class, while the great white empire of the east india trading company and royal academy of sciences is touted as the greatest achievements of mankind
yeah, losing your shit is a sure fire way to demonstrate calm and respectful behavior to a young kid writing about *his* fantasies.
if it was a girl she probably would have been treated differently too
our culture is a culture of fear and cowardice:( plain and simple, when we all realise this collectively (lets hope it doesn't take a collective ass kicking) we'll grow up
Until then, our empire is tiny and shitty compared to the aztecs and mighty vikings that came before it, we will see
This is good to see right now. But if commercial space flight ever became a thing like... say the airline industry (and yes they do have a pretty good track record but it's not amazingly stellar...) than the large companies and number/need of the industry/service would out way and overshadow most peoples individual legal complains.
Most likely people might be compensated by their standard, sorry, we blew up your family, but our rocket was really well insured, package.
I meant limited monopoly. That is no kind of special privilege that should be leveraged to throw people away in jail. And if you look at the way these limited monopolies have been used. They aren't so limited. Take for example the happy birthday song.
Give me a break. It's a monopoly on the right to distribute a certain resource. Even though that resource is technically supposed to be a specific set of information.
A monopoly is a monopoly. And humans are humans and they try to control all the things.:( grow up AC
Yes, people who are reckless and dangerous seem to certainly have no moral impetus. IMO people shouldn't be let off easy for those kinds of mistakes. Then again, it shouldn't be governments passing judgement on them IMO either. But that's a whole other ideological ballgame.
In this case the "victim" was granted a monopoly by us. Big difference between fraud and a monopoly abusing a PRIVILAGE we the people granted it and now they are lobbying all over the world to make international criminal law... oh wait.
This is not a crime and there is no victimization. Nothing is being stolen. The person recording videos just disagrees with what is clearly out of line. It is a civil matter. The worst that can happen in civil matters in the US is one party can force the other into debt or bankruptcy.
Seriously I'm all for conspiracy FUD, but this seems legit. Who says everyone is in agreement on the same team? It's project where the code is visible to be scrutinized. This means that whoever is submitting back code is submitting good bug fixes. TOR developers aren't morons.
I have not logged in to participate psuedoanonymously in any truely constructive way for a long time.
But I wanted to log in and say that I love this post. It is very well written and concise. And I feel like people will flame you just for speaking your mind.
Thank you for thinking independently and rationally and sharing that independent and rational thinking with your fellow humans. Very well said.
You mean, you got richer while the poor got poorer and infrastructure needed maintenance, protecting us from a trivial to defend against and non-existent threat.
It's time the American people said fuck no we don't need no big brother to watch over us. I know were about a centaury 2 late, but it's never to late to effect change.

I mean 100,000 signatures is nothing, lets get the ball rolling on all kinds of other glorious bullshit.
Of course, and what are we a holographic simulation of?

Go die in a fire now bitch.
So we are going to sterilize and weaken our entire ecosystem to save a few unfortunate people and bring ruination to the planet?
Pretty fucking retarded. And this is a god damn retarded article. I mean what is this now FARK?
Err, as in force, I meant to say the largest target as well.
There's a difference between military might, military dictatorships, and a strong cultural propensity for the martial arts.

So... further more philosophically, we shouldn't be granting this kind of power to individuals, none-the-less crazy non-person institutions.

Yes, it's either google or the atnt/bell crew (phone, cable, and ISP corps et all)

Yes I know I misspelled Nazi
I mean this has probably been pointed out before... but...
Nasa
Nasi
Arienespace
Uhhhh lol come on please? could we not be more blatant and hypocritical of we tried?
Sounds like Nasa is still not quite ready to admit how ubiquitous life is in the cosmos. Lest they get shut down forever and everyone lose their jobs.
