    Isn't KDE written in C++? C++ takes much longer to compile than C.

    Does anyone know if this is because of C++ or is it the GNU C++ compiler?

    Making exceptions to rules generally nullifies the power a rule has.

    With patents (unlike trademarks) you can enforce them as selectively as you want without the patent becoming any less binding. If they wanted they could allow everyone in the world except me use everything they had patented.

    Blaster had very little impact on our network. Nachi on the other hand caused absolute bloody chaos.
    There is absolutely nothing "white hat" about running code on someone elses machine without their permission.

    I see. Where I work the ability to run the latest games is a low priority. My machine here has the cheapest and crapiest soundcard and network card imaginable, DirectX is not supported because it is a Microsoft technology and for some reason they aren't too keen on supporting Linux. Having said that apparently FarCry works fine under WineX. Don't ask me what they consider "fine" though, I haven't personally tried it.

    Perhaps you would care to provide us with a list of this exotic hardware which is commonly used in a business setting and has no Linux drivers. I don't think DirectX9 video cards are particularly heavily utilised in office (The flight sim easter egg works fine with software rendering).

    No it doesn't it has a Windows NT Kernel.

    Kernel panics and blue screens are synonymous

    I have at least half a dozen servers and workstations here with uptime over a year, I doubt many people running NT can say the same.

    I am posting this from a machine running Fedora Core 2. I installed it the day it was released and it has been up since then. I would say 100% uptime is about as far from crash-prone as you can get.

    I tried browsing the interweb without any ad blocking yesterday for the first time in ages.

    Apart from a few sites it was almost unbearable. How do people put up with all that crap?

    Game related sites seem to be the worst offenders (not including "specialist adult interest sites") of course.

    I was just about to comment on the terrible wording too. I presume what they mean is currently google groups is "only" a usenet archive and will become a usenet archive plus the new Google Groups 2.

    The word "replace" makes it all horribly ambiguous.

    Just to add that at least sendmail defaults to only allowing connections from localhost. Why on earth they enable nfs by default I have no idea.
