The wages could be considered lost if they didn't get a promotion (due to reputation damage), quit their job or had to take leave without pay to cope with the stress of loss of reputation.

When I worked at a supermarket the cash registers required 5 digit PINs which had to be changed monthly. User IDs were 3 digit numbers, mostly sequential, so also easy to guess. Why do you have a right to know if a convicted sex offender is moving into your area? I think it's a privilege and a dangerous one that should be removed from society. Knowing about where sex offenders live leads to people harassing them, assaulting them, vilifying them in the press and vigilante action. If someone has served has sentence and been released then justice has been done. The community should not be taking matters into their own hands, in addition to the justice of the courts.

Apple is still elitist, it just appeals to a different group of people who want to be seen as elites. Your stereotypical nerd will buy whatever has the best specs and your stereotypical suburbanite wanting to be cool will buy Apple. People who buy iPhones are smug that it's better than your smartphone. iPad owners will gloat about how much better their new shiny device is than existing netbooks and kindles and nooks.

As for usability - Apple's better user experience is 90% marketing hype (haven't used an iPad so I may be wrong). In the past Apple has delivered a user experience marginally better than the competition (not hard), but it's not a great user experience by any objective measure e.g. Nielsen's Heuristics, or asking a non-fanboi.

    * There is a study of African men showing that circumcised men have a 50% lower rate of STI transmission. In my opinion this is still of no medical benefit because it doesn't prevent disease transmission outright. Even halving the rate that AIDS spreads at isn't enough to defeat it. The only way to stop AIDS outright is to use a condom.

If you tax real estate it suddenly becomes an incentive not to own any. Especially with the ridiculously high rate that would be needed to replace income and corporate taxes.

America already has a problem with oversupply of houses. Imagine the damage to the economy if everyone who currently owns a house tried to sell so they could rent instead and therefore avoid taxes. Housing prices would tank even more than they already have, which would reduce government income.

Face it, government needs tax revenue to operate. Tax is one of only two things which are certain in life. I think government should spend their tax money responsibly, however the US government is already running a huge deficit. They need all the income they can get and to spend it in a more sensible fashion.
