because the ppl playing the games are too damn lazy to do anything for themselves. I play eq1, and have for about 2 years now. I play on the FV server (rp server, special ruleset, not very many no-trade items at all) There are plat farmers there that have nearly ruined the game for many. If you go to most any of the high lvl zones, to get say runes for your 69 or 70 spells, you run into them. They are there 24/7. If you find a camp they dont seem to be at, and pop a named, thier ranger (tracker) informs them, and your group gets trained and killed. Many have given up on getting the runes for this reason, and resort to buying them in the bazaar... go figure, said ppl are the only ones selling those runes. So, now they have even more pp to sell online to the next lazy fuck that would rather pay for his shit then earn it himself. Personally, I raid, so have no real need of in game pp, and would never buy it. I have run into these farmers many times, and since I am geared much better than they are, and can FD (I am a 70 sk) they never kill me... rather I kill them until they leave for a bit, and my group (or anyone else wanitng to hunt in said zones) are free to do so until the next shift change, and the next poKafimur logs on. I am very against the plat farmers for what they have done to the game, and wont assosciate with anyone who even buys from them. They are the reason these guys exist. So to all of you who say *I buy gold... whats the problem?!?* do us all a favor, if you are too lazy to play the game yourself, just dont play. In game worldsis supposed to be a place that the amt of cash you make in RL doesnt have any effect on how you play the game. Dont let it. Either play, have fun (grinding levels/pp whatever, can be fun if you are with a good group of ppl, thats where I get most of my enjoyment out of the game) or fucking quit. You wont be missed.

I live in BFE, where there is no cable and I'm too cheap for a dish (plus no Internet from a dish out here). I wonder since this is going thru the UHF/VHF frequencies, if it will be available farther out of town than cable is in most places. Also, most channels thru my standard antenna don't come in very well. I think 2 of the 6 channels I get are clear. I wonder if this will have the same problems for those of us stuck out in the country?
Doesn't linux already pay us not to use SCO? You know, by giving us a good, reliable server without all the FUD. What other kind of payment do you want when setting up a server?
done this themselves, it is still good to see that it is now available on linux. I wish I would have known about this a couple of days ago, because I had someone call in for support to try to set up a redhat box thru a centrino chip. That is outside of the support offered at my call center, but I still didn't like having a linux guy (who are ussually my favorite customers, I use slackware, and linux guys ussually know what they are doing) yell at me cause his new laptop could not connect through a wireless router. It seems like a RH guy would know about compatibility list, but, oh well. Anyways, a big thanks to the guys responsible for this.
Neumann, the security expert, said, "This means that anyone could install a Trojan horse in the MDAC that won't show up in the source code." Jaguar employees, Sequoia employees or state election officials could insert code that wouldn't be detectable in a certification review of the code or in security testing of the system, he said.
Now all we need to do is write a trojan to get Tux elected president!!
it will be more like dreamweaver, and less like frontpage. I can handle a tool that takes out a lot of the headaches from doing rollovers, adding scripting, and flash files. Dreamweaver was always great at that (I haven't messed with web design in a few years). But if anyone tries something as stupid as frontpage extensions, I hope the whole community laughs in thier face. From what I've seen from him, he is not stupid, just trying to make it easier for non-tech geeks to get away from windows, and this could be a good thing. I have had many people tell me one of the reasons for shying away from linux is (besides lack of cutting edge games) no easy wysiwyg html editors. Not everyone wants to lookn at the code. Granted, even when I used to use dreamweaver, the code always got cleaned up in homesite or notepad (thank god I use linux now) before it ever saw the net. This should work out to be a good move.
and run into this cr*p all the time. New.net is always fun, as are Xupiter, Xzoomy, and the newer varients (like orbitexplorer). Theres another one called lop that has been pretty fun to try to get rid of. Here is a quote from doxdesk.com about lop I find amusing "lop/Toolbar installations normally put a round icon in the system tray, try right-clicking this, choosing 'Menu', then on the resulting window, clicking 'Help', then 'Uninstall'. With newer variants you will have to answer an annoying riddle before it will go away."
I really hate dealing with this stuff over the phone with people who don't know what IE is or where the start button in any version of windows is located. It makes you wonder how they know they have a problem in the first place, did they make it to thier 3rd game of solitaire and not get any pr0n pop ups? Either way, if you don't know how to use a computer, why do you automatically click on "I agree/accept" any time it pops up on your screen? This was my short list of spy/ad/cr*pware that gets on my nerves on a daily basis. Have a nice day...
was asking for a crack for MS Office, because his trial version was about to run out (I didn't even know MS Office had trial versions), so I sent him a link to OpenOffice.org. Today he came in and was extremely happy. He said it installed with no problems, let him open all of his existing.doc files, and the look and feel was easy to get used to. I work for a Cable ISP, and my Supervisor is one of those guys who gets nervous when you say IP address, so he's not very technically inclined... He was very impressed with thee software, and could not believe he got a free program to run on windows that did not turn his computer into a adware box. He said that if there were any complaints, it was that it would take a bit to learn the features provided by openoffice that are missing from that other office suite. All in all, he is a very happy man, and I'm happy, because it always helps to make your boss happy for a while. Thanks OpenOffice!
Verisign Typosquatter Explorer by Seth Finkelstein Introduction
On Monday September 15 2003, a change to.com/.net behavior was announced. In sum, every mistyped domain name, one that had not been registered, would be redirected to a new site controlled by the company which runs a major part of the domain name system, Verisign.
When a URL has a misspelled domain name, Verisign's changes have the effect of redirecting every single HTTP page request (technically, HTTP response code 302). There is a redirection header and page which displays:
http://verisign-is-to.net/more/evil/than/satan/h im self.html
Gets redirected to:
http://sitefinder.verisign.com/lpc?url=verisign- is -to.net/more/evil/than/satan/himself.html&host=ver isign-is-to.net
This site suggests corrections to the typo. I have written a program " Verisign Typosquatter Explorer" in order to examine these suggestions. Future data may be analyzed as interest permits.
Note tests with some domains seem to return results which are not constant, i.e. differences when the program is run repeatedly. This is not a program bug. Reloading the Verisign page also changes which squat-suggested domains are displayed. I don't believe it's an advertising rotation, but the behavior is similar to that practice. Support
This project was not supported by anyone. If anyone is providing financial support for such projects, the author would dearly like to know.

for someone with the time to do so, would be to make a portal with as much info on this subject, and links to sites that may be able to help you get started / funded for such a project. I'm sure the OSS community would appreciate a site with such information. Just a thought...
They have done a good job at stopping the normal pop-ups from annoying the **** out of me, so I hope they find a way to stop these as well. I want to write a plug in for mozilla that will not only stop the pop up ad, but also start a multi-user attack to bring down the server that forces this shit on me. Since its not illegal for them to force unwanted traffic onto us, i don't see why it is illegal to for unwanted DoS attacks on them. i think that would be a really good feature for mozilla. Any mozilla coders out there want to help on this?
as far as real wine goes, the older it is, the better. wine is still somewhat new, and once it really gets going, i have no doubt that it will run all the necassary *dows apps needed to be a real threat to M$. any doubters, come back in 1 year and talk trash. who wouldn't want to run *dows apps (and there are many) on a stable box (as far as *dows goes, there are none). i'm 100% behind the wine people, and one day they will get thier glory.
I have a cable modem thru Cox Internet Services (a div of cox communications) and get 2 mb down, 1 mb up, no ports blocked, I have been online without a break for close to 3 months now. Cable modems are just like ISP's, some are good, and some suck ass. Luckily, I got the good one...
This really stinks. I used to be proud of the fact that I did all the flash animations on your cd-rom, byte the lightning, but now I am truly ashamed. Even though I have never liked your music (thats why you can hear operation ivy and lass than jake playing in the background on all the sound bytes i recorded myself), I never thoughtr you were this hard up to make a buck. My only question is, are you guys gonna be rollin in the dough from other bands that use the same software you did to track users getting your crappy tunes? I hope not. I hope you all die slow and miserable deaths (which would kinda match yer music). oh,yeah-tell Elizabeth in Louisville (the chick that was in charge of your cd-rom) that Toby says "hi".
Metta*is that somebody trying to download OUR shitty music*llica you guys really should call up these people and thank them, cause nobody I know even likes your old crusty riffs anymore. An orchestra couldn't even make you guys sound like a band *sheesh*
Hey, now. I AM a green-hair, but I have certifications (CNA, Network+, some for web shit), 3years doing professional web design, 1 year PERL programming, and 1 year system administration experience. Its not like all the green hairs just got on the web yesterday. We (the G-H's) have been here for a long time, and will continue to do so. I know since every 17 yr old wants to dye his shit green, we kinda get stereotyped, but some of us have earned our geekdom the hard way. Slackware all the way baby....
i work in the noc for THE cable modem company in texas, louisiana, and arkansas. cable modems kick much ass as long as you aren't on an overcrowded teralink. you can have static ip's, and run your own webserver (or anything else). check out skank.tyler.net for proof. thats my slack7 box running at home. as of right now, i can't say we're better than dsl, because i've never had a dsl connection, but i am getting one from work (testing purposes-see exactly which is better) next month when it becomes available here.
first off, slack rules. where do you see slackware going? it has a reputation for being a no bloat type of distro, which i think is why most of us like it. if we want 12000 packages, we'll go to red-hat or suse. if we want a rock solid distro, with just enough to get up and running, then configure it exactly the way we want it, we use slack. my question is, what things are you looking to add to new versions of slack. what new linux progs could we expect to see in future vers of slack? with all the *linux* headlines in the news and such, what has gotten you the most excited?
Not that I agree with giving anyone outside of the "norm" drugs to make them just as stupid as the rest of the "norm" population, but I'm definitely outside the norm-i read slashdot*grin*-so if I need to be drugged and tagged, ya better make the drugs good.
