I have only one remark: sociopaths (I guess you mean psychopaths, since they are marked by lack of empathy) belong to a very different category than the Autism Spectrum (to which aspies, autists etc. belong). I notice that aspeis (it's harder to say about autists, because they are so closed) have perhaps an even higher level of empathy than the average person - but they typically have a hard time reading people's emotions. Usually aspies care a lot for the common good, while psychopaths care only for their own and to the expense of everyone else's - even to the whole world's. Aspies usually have some kind of ethics to which they adhere very closely, while psychopaths have none, just as they have no conscience.
Me, too. I really can't be assed about a multi-million-earning sportsman, regardless of the sport. Golf, soccer, football, basketball... none of these guys are any role model (eccept on how to rake in the dough). Fuck 'em. Together with the dumb celebrities of all kind. Fuck 'em all.
How about some hard sci-fi on the big screen, for a effing change? Honestly, aliens that copulate with black hookers and live in a ghetto, or Dance with the Volves on another Planet just didn't do it, for me. Neither did Total Recall, for that matter. Take some of Stephen Baxter's opus - hopefully not even Hollywood can screw up that!
For me, the epitome of sci-fi filmography was The Andromeda Strain (the original one, of course). Plenty of creativity, yet pretty hard sci-fi (coupled with believable acting/good directing) and no flying thumbs from the bottom of a reactor.
I think BeOS stil has a relevance today, as it beats the pants off any current OS in respnsiveness to The User: any command/mouseclick has the highest priority, file copy be damned. I have tested with many current OSes (even OS X fails this test) start copying a huge file, and see if responsiveness is affected at all. With BeOS, it wasn't - not even the slightest. The file would get copied a few secconds later, if I interact a lot with the UI, but so fucking what?
What a pleasure it was to use BeOS. For whatever reason, programmers just refuse to create such pleasant-to-use operating systems.
(I won't relay the often mentioned smoothness of displaying videos and playing MP3s. It's not that important. But it sure is impressive when you can play 30 MP3s at the same time, and some even backwards. Is there ever been an OS that dominated all the others so blatantly? The things BeOS was able to do were simply ridiculous.)
Fireforx' marketshare has been stagnating since summer of 2009, while Chrome has been increasing it - albeit by a very little bit - every month, monotonically.
Prediction: all the usual suspects Those who insist on using 'fanboi', (or other variants of the word) to describe normal people who are satisfied with what they bought Those who are envious and/or jealous of Apple's success Those who are too blinkered in their outlook, who define themselves by adherence to some purist "everything must be open" credo Those who can't afford the device, and are jealous of those who can Those with buyers remorse for having paid good money down out on something else The infants (at least of mind) who like to characterise anyone who buys Apple as gay Those who, for whatever reason, just dislike Apple as a company, and can safely be categorised as 'haters' will be out in force in this thread.
There are faults with any device. It's not perfect, and it won't be for everyone. What irks me is the "I don't like/want it therefore it's crap" attitude; the inability to look beyond what *you* find wrong with it, and see that this might just be golden for someone else. My parents, for example [grin].
But what bugs me above all is the anti-apple crowd these days. Apparently if you express even the slightest appreciation for something well-conceived and well-designed, you're a "fanboi" who's taken in by "the shiny" (whatever *that* is!). Sure there are fanboys (and girls, presumably), but not everyone (not even vaguely close - not in the same universe, let alone ballpark) who likes Apple kit should be labelled such.
I swear the anti-Apple crowd are far and away worse than the real fanboys. Even in the worst-possible scenario, with everyone who likes Apple kit being a fan (ahem, including both genders, here) , at least the fans have something they like, appreciate, and enjoy using. The haters just hate. And that's pitiably sad.
All this post is missing, is: Leave Apple alone!, in this style.
This is the first of many idiot-stories for the 1st of April, that will appear on Slashdot. The interesting thing is, ALL the stories are bunk. There won't be a single true one for about 18 hours from now.
It's clear that the chinese govt. is getting back at Google for uncensoring their searches. Banning the 'droid phones from the chinese telecoms, cutting access to the HK Google site were the first salvos, and perhaps bombing Youtube is just one in a number of hostile steps.
2)Who cares which pepper the capsaicin came from!? How would this be any different than any of the current commercial pepper sprays/balls/bombs?
You don't have to be a chemical engineer to understand that the process of extracting the capsaicin costs money. In theory, you are right, it doesn't matter where it comes from. But if you can get it at high concentrations without much processing, apart from simple drying and grinding (which would be necessary preparatory steps also for the extraction of capsaicin by pentane or some such solvent), then there is no reason why not use it in that form. Besides, pure capsaicin would be too strong and too expensive to be used directly, and would have to be diluted and perhaps mixed into a support material, such as calcium carbonate or such.
Let's get this all in perspective. I was born in the mid 1960's.
1960's - humankind put people into space and then put them around and then on the Moon. 1970's - humankind stopped bothering putting them on the Moon, but did put them in high orbit - Skylab 1980's - humankind dumped Skylab into the sea (and Western Australia) but brought in the shuttle 1990's - humankind used the Shuttle to get people into low earth orbit and started to build the International Space Station 2000's - humankind decides to retire Shuttle and considers retiring the ISS 2010's - humankind lifts people to the edge of the atmosphere.
At this rate by the time I'm retired, humankind will have set its sights for the top of the stairs. It may make it - but only if its risk-free.
Very true. I was born at the end of the '60s, and missed most of the fun. I still lived in hope humankind will do something just as great someday, and looked for the USA for it. Seems to me that we'll have to look elsewhere - the US is only interested to put rich dudes into LEO. Fuck that.
Today almost everything is adulterated - from Spanish and Greek olive oil (which is often either not virgin (cold-pressed) or not even olive), to milk and everything in between. Think that "100% pure Mysore Sandalwood" is actually from Mysore, or 100% pure - or even Sandalwood? Considering that Mysore Sandalwood has been illegal to harvest fr a number of years... and that Sandalwood is one of the most often adulterated essential oils... and that the great majority of people could not distinguish a 100% from a 5% essential oil, the answer is a resounding no.
Worst adulteration, as far as I know, is adding lead chromate to curry and turmeric, to improve the color: lead is deadly for your braincells, and hexavalent chromium is carcinogenic. Bon apetit!
I read your post.

The small brain takes care of the mechanical movements of the body, such as walking, swimming, dancing, bicycling etc.
As an aside, my brain is certainly restricted to a single task, since I'm an aspie.
If anything, I beat you at "fresher": 10 weeks :)
..let me say that the baby in the video is really cute. Not as cute as my baby boy, but still, not trailing far behind.
Way more fun than a techie gadget such as fake windows.
So I propose they change their name to "Privacy Party".

It is nice to be part of a demographic that couldn't give a rat's ass about the whole thing, including MMOs and the surrounding scene.

Owning the iPad seems to accrue more and more douchebag bonuspoints, these days.

Which kinda kills the joke.
Solaris is still open - through OpenSolaris.
FUD much?
And clearly, it didn't hurt RedHat. You can't blame Oracle for the attempt, it does make some sense.
To note: RHEL :: Oracle Solaris - OpenSolaris :: Fedora
I am pretty sure what grahamsz meant was "do not use Facebook".
Methinks this will end in tears.
I used to respect that company (NetWare 3.11, NDS, NetWare 5.0, GroupWise, ZenWorks, all top-notch tech, IMHO).
Now, a tad less.
That's what retarded Americans really believe.
Well, I guess you'll have to add Finland to the "retarded" countries list.
DOSa and China.

I would like to recomment Buth Jolokia as a great chili, beyond just the high capsaicin content: it's a chili with a particular, very pleasant flavor.
As for "weaponizing it", there is one problem: individual sensitivity to capsaicin is extremely variable.
Well, I am all for it.
Oh, we are bringing them back? Fuck that.
Well played, nitehawk.
