Seriously dude, do we pay for everything with checks? No, in fact checks are becoming obsolete for the very reason that you have to wait for them to clear.
With that said and forgetting that BitCoin is a pyramid scheme; why do you think BitCoin would be any better? It has all the problems of checks and none of the benefits.
So you think you're a big shot because you've contributed to some OSS project and lecture in a university?
Firstly the fact that you're teaching rather then doing doesn't impress me. In fact just the opposite. Every university professor i have personally met has been some out dated dinosaur so I'm not surprised that you haven't heard of dropbox.
Secondly I've contributed to far more open source projects, including famous well known ones. Does that make my e-peen bigger then yours?
It is common knowledge and assumed you know what it is. If you don't then please leave the site. It is not Slashdot's failing that you've been in a hole for 3 years and know nothing about technology on a technology related website.
So you pretty much just admitted you're wrong, and that linux users do in fact purchase software. Not sure why you keep rambling on about something else though.
I'm not sure why you've made it your crusade to post the same "meaningless statistics" reply to every post on this story. My only conclusion is that you simply don't care about real facts unless they prove your view of "linux users being cheap" to be the correct one.
and what's your point exactly regarding this news about Debian; an organisation whose goal is to provide a completely free software operating system..?
Looks like linux is around 25% of the sales and windows is around 50%. 25% of 64,xxx at an average of 13.xx usd = 34,xxx usd 50% of 64,xxx at an average of 7.xx usd = 9,xxx usd
Obviously you can't go by the averages but doesn't mean that you're right either. Do you also believe that million sales at 0.1 usd is bigger then 100 sales at 2000 ?
I don't think it's thought of as a non-viable platform is accurate. I think it's more a case of lack of any user experience with using linux as a desktop from developers and the typical assumptions people have without even trying out linux on the desktop that kills games on the platform. Most game developers see it as this big scary question mark and run away screaming. Others such as the AAA studios simply can't support other platforms because they've continued developing decade old game engines that are directX only.
Same thing with the "PC is dying" hype from EA. Even after people started realizing that most PC gamers had moved to steam rather then buying offline we still have some developers claiming the platform is dead regardless.
All new linksys routers since last year support IPv6. There isn't support in their web UI but since the majority that the GGP is whining about never use the web ui I don't think it really matters.
Thing is that mindset is propagated throughout the pay grades. The extremely poor cleaner that makes very little thinks the exact same thing about office workers making twice their salary and not doing anything all day.
So basically who are you to say that Zuckerberg doesn't deserve his own money. He went out there and got to the point where he is today. You can argue that the way he did it was not moral but not about how he does or does not deserve his own money.
This doesn't answer any questions such as what if you have two large vocal minorities each with polar opposite views that want radical changes while the silent majority get on with their lives?
This whole thing totally ignores any actual political system for a simple "lets throw open source software at the problem and hope it works".
There are currently 71 million people in my country, most without internet. Suddenly they're not represented? awesome.. and even if they were you'd never be able to handle the load of everyone having their say which is mostly a regurgitation of the 71 million other people's say.
Add all that to the fact that forums are the worse place to gather suggestions, the loudest voice is always the vocal minority. Read any article where forums are involved in the decision making process for a huge community and the conclusion is always mostly to ignore suggestions on it.
- I don't really see that delaying reviews. Most reviewers finish a game and most games aren't that long as the used to be.
- Downloaders are normally the ones with the spare time (otherwise they'd save their time downloading and buying the game) so they can play through the game and comment on it in less then 48 hours in most cases.
- The game offered for download sometimes comes out a week before the real game even hits the selves or is on steam, giving downloaders a chance to download it, play it and complain about it.

Better then some loser with more then three accounts running around modding all my posts troll. Nice move dude, you truly are the king of slashdot.
I already replied to your other account. Next time get a clue and wait more then 1 minute between posts.

They don't need a slashvertisement grandpa, everyone here has been using dropbox for years.

Well it's a good point, i'm not saying you're wrong; just completely irrelevant to the topic at hand.
So you pretty much just admitted you're wrong, and that linux users do in fact purchase software. Not sure why you keep rambling on about something else though.
Stuxnet has been found throughout the world, you make it sound like they only found it in one facility.
What statistics do you need to refute the GGPs claim that linux users refuse to pay for software then?

problem is that they'll go out of business, some patent troll with purchase the patent then sue everyone regardless of if the patent is valid.
Afraid there is prior art for some of this.. remote desktop while playing a game. I know some of us have done it.
My bad, that's a typo but you get the point.
How did you work the math out on that?
Looks like linux is around 25% of the sales and windows is around 50%.

You realise that is the whole point of donating to charity in the first place.
See Dilbert.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmE7LMcL8ZE
I already purchased the bundle and all the games have linux binaries including braid.

I, for one, think that you should be forced to give away your own money before you talk about forcing other people to give away their money.

There's a difference between having an opinion and broadcasting it in a what is regarded as a news piece.
Perhaps you could point out the thoughtful analysis on what you yourself describe as opinion because I can't see it.
That's not going to help for some reasons:
- I don't really see that delaying reviews. Most reviewers finish a game and most games aren't that long as the used to be.
- Downloaders are normally the ones with the spare time (otherwise they'd save their time downloading and buying the game) so they can play through the game and comment on it in less then 48 hours in most cases.
