You're under the false impression that people in open source don't get paid to work on it. Here's a cluestick in all the major OSS projects, most have paid developers.

It's not their 'problem' that it doesn't work on your hardware
and this is where YOU are missing the point. If Linux only works for certain hardware combinations then it IS their problem because it's either a bug or something is missing.
There maybe good reasons for why it's missing however that doesn't mean it stops being their problem and to continue stating otherwise just makes you look like an amateur.
In the past 4 months there has been way too much American politics on this website. I know slashdot is based in America but not all its readers are and it's getting such poor quality.
No one gives a shit that Obama sucks at gift giving, not even in England however many newspapers try to hype it up. Fucking stupid.
It's simply different language between US and UK. In UK "pants" is like a very polite way of saying crap. Also since i'm posting this it is mobile phone, not cell phone. *shakes angry fist"
You know, there's something to this. If Google automatically responded to this letters in a convincing manner it would waste a lot of the time of the scammers.
Retail price is $2.99. Justin is a very talented developer and offers quality support for his products. If you would like to see new features, please purchase and support his app.
So are the people that you're ripping off when using this program to download stuff.
Is it some kind of joke that he expects people who pirate stuff to buy an app that lets you pirate stuff?
Why would he stop funding it? It's starting to make a profit so there really isn't a reason to stop, in fact, if it's starting to make a profit maybe he's already stopped funding it.
It would be cool to build a telescope dedicated to seeing the flag on the moon. However I'll just be happy with the mirror they put up there so we can shine a laser and measure how far the moon is away from the Earth.
I know that the situation on web cams etc are a lot better now, to the point where skype (evil, close sourced and useful as it is) works with video on Linux now
It's been working for years. I first used Skype with my webcam on Ubuntu 3 years ago.
In my opinion (we can only guess) it's not a watermark but something that actually moves parts of the binary around kind of like a self modifying program.
I find using cheese annoying because when you record a video it's REALLY compressed and looks crap. It also saves it as OGG which makes sending videos a pain to the uncoverted.
Oh and as usual no obvious way to change the format or quality.
The way it is now I don't see how Cheese would be usable to someone who isn't computer savy and knows how to change the video format so those on windows can watch it. I'm not saying you can't watch OGGs on windows just that it doesn't come default so to the laymen it doesn't work.

Yeah, 10 years is a long time. I wish they where like EA which bring out a new Madden each year. EA are truly the masters of innovative games.

IIRC, the million dollar prize has stopped now and they're going to be using the money for something. It was announced at the last amazing meeting.
I wonder if this will make the guardian more interesting to read..
$8.33/hour is pretty good for a job where the only qualification is to keep breathing.
Insightful news which is factually correct without sensational headlines.
ZING! Happy April fools!
After all these years of posting on slashdot I began to think I was wasting my life, but now I have a new goal in life, I must collect them all.
To answer your question, no. A torrent doesn't enabled someone to download pirated content.
It's debatable where this actually happens however it would either be the peers or tracker server which are to blame.
A torrent file contains as much copyrighted material as an md5 checksum does, that is to say, none.
All ready done.
What does it matter who is included and who isn't. Every religion is fucking stupid.
Your Y2K comment just lost you any creditability you had.
There WAS NOTHING to Y2K it was hyped up bullshit and since you're on slashdot you should know that.

They say five times faster however it really depends on if they're talking about a European or African Python Interpreter.

I'm not fooling for your robot talk. Stop pretending to be a human and shut yourself down!
Maybe Opera refused to take part? Who knows..

That might be one way how they do it. We can only speculate really.
