I've heard this mentioned several times by people but I nor anyone I've talked with has actually gotten this to work. Using putty on windows xp and OpenSSH_3.9p1 on the back end it simply doesn't work, at least not out of the box or with any tweaks that I can find.
They've also made some changes to the gmail interface in regards to invites. Instead of showing along the top of the page invites are now in a seperate box to the left of the mail display under the labels section. As an aside my gmail invites have suddenly been bumped to 50.
no problems to report with my Treo600 and Cingular - lag is pretty high though, not something I'd want to use every day but it's sufficent to reboot a server or kill a proc if needed.
the third (and fourth) suggestions here are damn good suggestions.
I'm the same way; with my current sleeping habits I get sleepy around 11 - 12, but I fight it and stay up unil 2 or 3 when I have to lay in bed for an hour to fall asleep
did he say it picked up shortwave? I know he said it was picking up VHF and UHF TV and right around those two bands are the paging bands. Could of been pocsag or flex.
Why on earth they wouldn't (or wont) give you an actual radio or a pager - is beyond me. There was some mention of an underground sort of medic service earlier, but I can't find mention of that on the homepage he has listed so I won't comment on that.
You need to get a pager, a Montorola Minitor IV to be exact. These have a dynamic solid state 2 minute memory to replay calls. I would venture to say that nearly every ambulance service and fire department service that is dispatched (or toned, as we say) via radio uses these type of tone pagers.

I would highly suggest some type of vest. The scottevest looks cool but it's expensive. About a year ago I got a black ck, lightweight nylon vest on ebay. It's got 4 pockets to shove crap in, and it's easy to throw on and off.
The comment about swapping out the leatherman for a micra was spot on. I carry my micra everywhere and have since retired my larger swiss army knive to the glove box of my car. Personally the only electronic thing I carry *everywhere* is my pager. Usually my phone too, but when I go out to bars I leave the phone and just grab the pager making sure to not clip it on my belt like a retard but sticking it in my pocket or something so it's at least partially concealed.
yeap.. it was definately a short in the battery. Back when I was working in the wireless industry I actually saw the plastic on the back of some guys 5120 start to discolor and sort of melt.
running a vnc server on the other machines, and using win2vnc (if your controlling computer is a windows box) or x2vnc (if your controlling computer is a linux/bsd box.) The limits to this are that you you can control only up to 4 machines. (up - down - left - right)
Allows you to 'create' an e-mail address, consisting of x.y.username@spamgourmet.com where x=a unique identifier for the e-mail address you're creating, y is the number of times e-mail may be sent to the address before it gets forwarded into/dev/null, and username is.. obviously your username.
a little complicated - but go and sign up, it's free, it works...
why not listen to shortwave radio? As we've seen during 9/11 internet sites sometimes have problems dealing with lots of traffic.
If something does happen here on US soil - internet connectivity will most certainly go out, and your computer is really of no use after your power and UPS batteries go out. You can buy a pretty decent shortwave radio at radioshack for under $100, and tune in any number of news sources.
My AUP and TOS clearly states that the material on the server is not mine, and is rather the property of the account holder. Claims of illegal copyrighted material will be dealt with me verifying that the claim is valid, and forwarding the claim to my user. Under court order I'll reveal the name and contact info of the customer - anything other than that will be met by a lengthy court battle. (Yes, it is *that* important to me.)
Darwin, I believe, said something to the effect of "oh though I may not agree with what you are saying, I will fight to the death for your right to say it."
when you work 'in the office' do you ask your employer to pay for the cost of commuting to work (gas, vehicle maintance, and or subway/bus/public transit fare)? No.. of course not - it's expected that you get yourself to work on your own.
The same applies to 'tele-commuting' you're reponsible for the cost of the 'commute' to work - in this case some type of broadband or other internet access.
Sure I know if I had the ability to push off the cost of my cable modem to the company I'd do it.. but quite frankly I'd rather not. If they pay for it, it becomes their 'property' and technically anything I did on it would have to abide by their rules (no porn, no mp3s, no instant messaging) and really when you cut that out what's left of the internet?

as an aside - an apple USB pro mouse (the ones being discussed above) *will* work with Windows XP - by default every click is a left click.
whatever happened to using a micro cassette recorder?

Thomas Dolby - Video Killed the Radio Star, in late 97. Interesting that it was the first video ever played on mtv.
yeah.... type in "LC-PDS Apple Driver" and it's the 8th result that appears.

why is that marked 5 Informative?
You should be going to the page to read the article. I doubt that the icann site is going to get slashdotted and crash.

you planning on putting a hard drive in that?
