go to unixfest... you can play around with the CAVE, tour the i2/abilene noc, even do lots of hands on stuff. Anyway... come on down to Bloomington, where the big boys are.
are you a retail store or an authorized agent / resller?... for that makes all the difference. I my self was a member of a former lets talk store which became a nextel retail store a couple weeks before I got hired.
from a former nextel employee... I'd seriously consider getting this phone. It'll be a good couple months before it's in stores (probly) and nextels service and customer service highly leave much to be desired.
you should check your nic card, networking settings, etc, being a student at IU and living on campus (no longer in the dorms... now I'm on cable @ my apartment) I got much lower ping times than what you're reporting.
The university also has more than just two t3's... true resnet and greeknet share a t3 (the traffic upon which is nearly 85% p2p file sharing) - and general academic buildings have a t3 (ie, franklin hall, swane/swain/whatever east + west, everything else all share a t3) wruble - along with the IU research park (pervasive, etc) all have their own connections. Also.. are you sure resnet/greeknet is connected to i2 - when I was at linux fest last year (2001 - in Indianapolis) and toured the i2/abilene noc there - I was told that resnet was not connected to i2.
you're at work... do you know what you're supposed to be doing at work.. that's right; work!
You're using their bandwitdh - their computers - and their time; all while wasting their money. I'm a system administrator and If I could I would institute this policy quicker than you can say "just_a_minute_while_i_finish_this_game_of_mah-jon g". All too often do I get done with doing some mundane task - nescesitated by ignorant users to go 'walk the floor' (I work for a newspaper) to find users gleefully playing on yahoo games or candystand.com - why is this right?
"Last week, Heckenkamp, 22, fired attorney Jennifer Granick, and co-counsel Marjorie Allard, in order to personally defend himself against two federal grand jury indictments charging that he cracked computers at eBay, Lycos, Exodus Communications, and other companies in 1999. It was the second time Heckenkamp fired his lawyers -- in January, he had a federal magistrate appoint him as his own counsel, only to change his mind the same day."
wtf? Jennifer Granick is an excellent lawyer - often representing clients pro-bono. If you're going to launch a ddos attack.. yeah that's lame - but then to go to court and act like a four year old gives hackers a bad name. I only hope that this will not discourage Ms. Granick and other lawyers to accept these kind of cases.
this has to be one of the most horribly written articles I've ever read. If people are going to take linux seriously possibly we shouldn't some guy who uses his nick name 'roblimo' and uses words like 'biddness' and 'dude'.
I've had digital cable for about six months and the video on demand for about 3 months. It's quite nice besides movies (and porn of course) there's local weather, news, daily trivia and I can even play solitaire on my set top box (no I'm not kidding.) Many many movies are availble (new and old alike) and specials from networks like discovery, the learning channel, and the travel channel are also available.
We at Insight would like to provide you with an update regarding the status of your Insight@Home service, based on today's hearing.
This afternoon, the US Bankruptcy Court, Northern District of California, issued the decision that enabled Excite@Home to cancel their contracts with their affiliated cable operators. It is important to note that this does not equate to the network shutting down; it simply means that @Home has the option to do so.
Based on the nature of the ongoing negotiations, we are still optimistic that this ruling will not result in a loss of service for our customers and that an agreement will be reached.
We are working hard to avoid any inconvenience to our customers. In mid-October, we, together with other @Home affiliates (including Cox, Comcast, and Mediacom), increased our payments by over 50% to ensure uninterrupted service until an agreement among the Creditors could be reached; this was done at no additional cost to our customers. @Home affiliates including Insight are supporting AT&T in its bid to buy the @Home network. If the network were to go dark, there would be no cash coming in nor would there be any bids for @Home's assets. Therefore, it makes no sense for @Home to "pull the plug."
If the unlikely occurs, we will cover your cost of a dial-up service until we can transition you back to our broadband service. As I mentioned in our earlier note, we are talking with AOL Broadband and Road Runner, and believe we can expedite a transition.
For now, service remains intact and we encourage you to visit the special page we have on our website for further updates: www.Insight-com.com/net/UPDATES . In addition, we'd like to remind you that our customer service centers are operating with expanded staffing and hours this weekend to accommodate your inquiries.
Please know that we, too, are frustrated by this victimization of our customers and ask you to bear with us through this process. We know this service is important to you and we are working hard to meet your needs. We truly appreciate your business and patience as we make every attempt to resolve this situation to your benefit.

I have Insight @home in Bloomington, IN. I made a quick call to the customer serivce number and after being bounced about 3 times - I finally got someone to tell me that they have not "at this time" found any alternate provider, however they are "optimistic" that things will work out and "I really wouldn't worry, ok hun?"...

yup - know exactly what your talking about.. it'a little big but quite nice. If anyone is interested I know where you can get one of these.. just e-mail me. Also the Motorola's i90c is quite nice as well - MIDI Ring Tones, Java 2 ME, Date Book, Address book - not to mention the whole internet access thing.
For those that it has succeeded for - it more than likely won't last long. Think about it - this person could go sell crack or whatever and make a grand in a day (on a bad day) or they could work for two weeks and make the same amount. Now I'm not saying that everyone will go back to selling crack, I'm sure that there *are* people who realize that being a web designer is a better living enviroment than a gang banger (not to mention it's not illegal) but this is what makes rehabilitaion so damn hard.
I'm hugely anti-corporation and very very anti microsoft. But if I want to video conference and use a usb web cam I don't have time to dick around with windows. If I want to sync my handspring - again I don't have time to dick around. True that I don't spend enough time with it - but the documentation is lacking and the whole idea of these devices is "plug and play." re-compiling my kernel because it doesn't contain usb support or playing with other settings is a big big problem. I love linux (hell my dog's name is tux) just as much as the next reader - but it's not where it should be - It's used on my servers, my two sparcs, and my laptop and main machine both dual boot.
Stop and think - possibly, Linux isn't all that easy to use: possibly, Linux isn't the best over all operating sytem in the world.
Urhm.. yeah I mirrored it, I'm sure it's illegal and all because of the copyright issues, but oh well. I suppose If I get a notice telling me to remove it, I will.

Firstly it's cingular.... the phone your using doesn't actually use GSM in the US, it simply flips to GSM when your over seas. Secondly, there are about 15 companies nationwide that offer this service... and I hope you can get a refund on that prepaid gsm card, because chances are it isn't going to work.

Being a nextel "wireless consultant" i can tell you that two-way messaging is available for $10 a month per phone. It's not sms, but it's what (I think) you want.

I would highly doubt that they'll do all of the production runs by hand. It would literally take years.

I thought they were talking about a real passport.. ya know the paper ones.
no where do I see ian... or any representation of his company. Considering he's the founder of debain.. that's kind of odd.
