The ad overlay is probably no worse than those ridiculous network promos that take up almost a good 1/4 of you TV screen in the lower right corner.
I read an article (I think it was here on slashdot) that streaming video traffic this year is greater than all internet traffic from the year 2000. I'm sure youtube is partly responsible for that.
Lets not forget, disk space, servers, and bandwidth aren't free, even though use of youtube is.
We can't hold it against them too much for wanting to earn a little cash to offset the tremendous resources it must take to power youtube.
Streaming flash players are popping up everywhere. If people get pissed at youtube, we can start freetube, with no ads.

Don't get me wrong, I love x86, it has been great, and has adapted amazingly into the most powerful computing the world has ever seen.
But, since most software is tied to x86, we are holding ourselves back from hardware advancements. x86 is loaded with archaic instruction sets for compatibility with Windows code that is based on 16bit DOS code.
I'm not laying out flame bait, this is what I read in an article about the future of processors, and moving to specialized co processors.

I don't know why we need a central authentication system for websites. It's just a bad idea.
Even worse when a company like MS is pushing it. I think it's a trap.
They want people to develop opensource apps, and popular websites, like myspace, around this 3rd party auth system.
Before you know it, MS will be sending out their goons to shake down all of these developers who are using it. Either pay up for a license, or rewrite you whole auth backend.

If you want enterprises to use your product, you need to provide enterprise support.
Support staffs cost money. You need more than donations to make it work.
I think Linux is bigger in enterprise today because of Red Hat. If there was no support model, I know my company probably just would have gone with Solaris or AIX.

I hope Chinese products start getting better quality. I can't stand hearing about shotty Chinese manufactured garbage coming in this country falling apart and making people sick. The trade deficit with China is damaging the US economy, not to mention the US manufacturing sector is moving overseas.
That trade deficit is largely driven by big stores like Walmart and Target. They demand lower prices, thus the manufacture must come up with ways to lower the production cost. There you have it, over to China's slave labor while US jobs are lost. Then, the Walmart workers are so underpaid that they qualify for Government assistance for everything. Now those low prices for Chinese manufactured crap is being payed for by tax payers. DEMAND QUALITY, BOYCOTT Chinese made crap
