  8. It's a scam to sell hardware! on Microsoft Should Abandon Vista? · · Score: 1

***Disclaimer: I'm joking around with this, so don't freak out!*** It's all one big conspiracy with MS and hardware makers.
Most people were content with their PC from 3 years ago. 1.8Ghz single core, and 512Mb or 1Gb or Ram was plenty. A normal video card that doesn't require it's own power substation.
The hardware makers were freaking out, so Microsoft stepped in to save the day. They said, we'll make an Operating SYstem that is such a resource hog, you won't be able to even install it with less than 1G ram. And we'll recommonend multicore chips, and super high end video cards.

Honestly, that takes some stones *recommended* ram is 2Gb and a multicore processor just to run the BASE OS!!!! Vista will probably get there. XP had the same problems. No/lacking drivers, lacking hardware support for older stuff, games and certain apps wouldn't run, etc. I hate the fact that MS crammed Vista down our throats with all these media blitzes, and ripped XP out from under our feet. I think Vista would have done better if it was an option rather than requirement for new PCs.

We already know it's geek friendly, I'm hoping it will be non-geek friendly, and I hope people understand the major significance that the phone is not locked into 1 vendor, and everything uses common open standards. The fact that it uses a plain old USB cable to connect to PC blows my mind. Usually they have some proprietary connection and the end of a USB cable that's different for every phone, and they charge you $80 for it. It'll be sweet:)

But it depends on how you look at it.
That statement he made is complete BS.
Google is successful because of the rise the popularity of the internet.
This can be attributed to cheaper access to broadband, and cheaper and faster PCs.
It just happens that most people accessing the internet use Windows. Ok I'll give them that.
But google owes more to opensource than anything else. With out Linux and Apache, and whole slew of other open source projects, there would be no google. Sure they could have built their infrastructure on Microsoft products, but it would have cost a lot more money, and they may have never been able to get that little startup off the ground.
