Great points, having a 1 year old I have been dealing with many vaccinations lately and in the near future. Do you have some concrete examples of possible interactions with childhood immunizations? (this is a serious question not rhetorical/sarcastic my child's health is extremely important to me)
This isn't what politicians are saying! this is what scientists and health professionals are saying. Just because something is from an organization doesn't mean that it's from a politician. Do you really think there's any benefit for a government to spread inaccurate health information and endanger the money making and thusly tax paying potential of it's people? (If you answer yes here, then we'll just have to agree to disagree until you die of a curable disease):O
Personally, if this gets anywhere, I think it could possibly be the one to destroy the software patent circus for good. We can only hope.
Seriously, when did the legal departments take over the jobs of sales in this country? (That is, to make profit) If all these companies put half as much into pleasing their customers as they put into protecting their obvious patents we might have a really awesome thing going on.
I feel like when it comes to open networks, Verizon has always been that evil master that enslaves you and hits you with a rolled up magazine. It makes me wary that it's now trying to give us this treat of promises of open networks... This was my gut reaction as well, but then I started to think about it. I think this would be a good business move for them, to really do this, not just stick a carrot out. Verizon didn't get to be the biggest by always screwing things up. They got to be the biggest by doing a great job, and THEN they screwed their customers. Now they're starting to realize that they aren't getting any customers away from GSM providers and their only new customers are going to be people who are getting their first cell phone, this isn't good for them if their current customers still hate them, and every time a newbie walks into a Verizon store they hear 14 people yelling at the sales force. I will hesitate to make a final judgement here, but my gut says that this is for real.
That's pretty much how XP got the market share it has, it's one of the reasons that people use Microsoft and Adobe at all. Both are just giants who create bloatware, but the pirates have made it so everybody is learning computers on MS and learning graphic design on Photoshop, then when you go buy a new machine, you get a windows box, and if you become a good enough designer to start selling your stuff, you buy Adobe products. Who's gonna go from using win XP for free on an old computer that came with 98, and buy a linux system? Who's going to, as they make the transition to a professional designer, start learning a whole new program so they don't get sued when they get some real contracts?
To make a blanket statement that Orwell was communist belies the fact that your only exposure to him was through "Ninteen Eighty-Four", there's a slight possibility that you read "Animal Farm" also but completely misinterpreted it. However his collective works are deeply anti-communist. You are correct that he didn't like Stalin. Orwell did not argue for or against "Capitalism", but for democracy/republicanism. People seem to think that Communism and Capitalism are complete opposites, if you take the roots of the words and break them down this is true. However, in the real world, communism represents a Political as well as Economic system, and capitalism represents an Economic system only. Further, capitalism and communism do not represent a binary choice, since Orwell never claimed to be a capitalist does not imply that he was communist. (I don't think that the proposition there is true anyway)
I mean, I don't have one but the DS looks pretty cool, I just find it strange that with all of these great "learning companions" we have now, Kindergartens are on average not able to read nearly as well as they were in the early 1800's in the States. Try to get your hands on a copy of "The New England Primer" sometime and read it realizing that it was intended for K-1st graders, you'll see what I mean.
As for the people picking this particular little girl out and saying "I can't believe she's just learning to read!?!?!" get a grip, some kids have different timing than others, God's cookie cutter stopped working a while ago.
Well, isn't the issue that the companies ARE making advertising revenue from this, and that's what they tell their stock holders, but they are telling the writers that they aren't making anything so they don't need to be paid for online shows...I'm probably wrong but that's how I understand it
But see, as an American run enterprise MTV does not know this will happen since in America it is rare for someone to have a grasp on more than one language.
This is not about warfare, this is about espionage, so that when warfare is upon us we can better conduct a physical attack. It's not like "Oh shit you broke into my computer, I guess we'll stop building these missles now". It's more like "Hey China has a foo weapon! I found it in their database!", "Oh shit! Let's tell someone to go blow it up!"
It's too bad we can't be like the Native Central Americans of yesteryear and just play lacrosse instead of have war (granted people got killed, but not near as many per capita).
Have you read the YouTube Community Guidelines?
Graphic or gratuitous violence is not allowed. If your video shows someone getting hurt, attacked, or humiliated, don't post it. it's not censorship to enforce a contract.
I'm not a super designer, but I see that you seem to have at least changed some of the colors on your site since I last saw it. It's a bunch better. I'm not sure how much liberty you have at blogspot, I'd try to fill in some of the un-used space (not all of it, think simple but efficient). I also propose you put up an "Ask Slashdot" There are so many people here that are really talented with these kinds of things. Maybe ask for some assistance and/or free design-work as a way to donate to your cause, a well designed site and well publicized one will bring more in the way of monetary donations from visitors.
I know that this is offtopic but newyorkcountrylawyer, you need a serious re-design, my eyes almost exploded when looking at your site. But thanks for the great content.
But seriously, RIAA in my opinion are being cowards. Leaving Harvard alone is not what I call cowardice though, that's pretty smart. Cowardice is destroying individuals who don't have the kind of money, legal knowledge, or time that it takes to stand up for themselves in these cases. It's not who they're NOT picking on that makes them cowards, it's who they are picking on INSTEAD.
Their logic goes something like this; The more Joe Shmoes whose lives we utterly destroy and who individually make it into the news, then less of the rest of the Joe Shmoes will continue doing what we don't want.
I don't think labeling them as cowards is 'namecalling' per se, to me it seems more like identification. Cowardice is fairly measurable, and I believe (for different reasons than some) that RIAA have shown themselves to be cowards many times in the past, and will continue to do so.
So the combination is 827ccb0eea8a706c4c34a16891f84e7b. (lifts mask) That's the stupidest combination I've ever heard in my life. That's the kinda thing an idiot would have on his luggage. nicely plagiarized
I'm so tired of being afraid that how I raise my son will offend somebody and CPS will end up on my doorstep one day. Thanks for putting this problem so eloquently.

GPG works fine.
^^^ Insightful? Well at least there is some grain of truth to that modding, this would be the place for informative...
and this post here would be offtopic, not flaimbait or troll, mod accordingly. Seriously though do people just try to use up all their points on the first two comments they see?
Over the past few years, I have come to consider the police as not-too-intelligent bullies.
This is simply the logical result of telling people you're gonna pay them money to boss people around and arrest people, and training is only 9 months! No degree / diploma required!
First of all, much grant money comes from the private sector, second of all, it's no one's fault but the publics if taxes are high, that's what happens when you vote to raise taxes, taxes get raised. So yes, the majority of people either don't care or do want high taxes in exchange for these innovations. Because if the majority didn't want it, it would change but it hasn't. Apathy is not a release of responsibility.
Why is it that people think that one year they can vote "yes please try harder to find a cure for cancer" but not have to pay for it somehow. I mean it's not like they can cannibalize social security again and magically come up with more money.
We have the choice and exercise it for a lot of things, we chose not to publicly pay for stem cell research, this doesn't mean that no one in the country is getting paid to research stem cells, it just means that the federal government isn't paying them. And you can bet that the people doing the research aren't doing it for free.
Thank you two for the education, I don't know much about all of this, to tell the truth I'm glad that it's not as simplistic as I had imagined.
know this is Slashdot, were we all download music purely as a "try before you by" and we are always very careful to purchase legitimate copies of the music we download
I'll admit that I don't do that, although I have bought a few CD's that I never would have if it weren't for P2P downloads and have a few songs that are from CD's that I would never buy. I'm not one of those people with 200 CDs though.
Gattaca is coming...

"Mary got Tuberculosis!" AWESOME! Freakin Mary's been eating all the beans since we left!

I move to identify this movement as the "Ballmer cries playsforsure" movement.
One day Ballmer was out hitting penguins with hammers and cutting down fruit trees, and he cried "playsforsure, playsforsure!"
