Wha?! I'm finding out that SBC is running TV advertisements that basically are complaints how ATT and Sprint won't share their lines, preventing SBC from offering long distance in some states. Googling for more info, I find their own FAQ (sbc.com -> Regulatory affairs -> Competition and long distance -> Local competition).

The story short seems that SBC wants to expand on multiple fronts. I only hope this is truly for competitive purposes and not monopolistic intentions.

I was trying to think how MS could use this as a tactic, such as them coming back a little later to say how linux is able to compete "unfairly" and thus urge the government to step in and block open source development. And then MS could step in and save the world.

Strange things have already happened, such as the former MS security chief Howard Schmidt being appointed by Bush. the I could be way off though.

Knee-jerk reaction to this is that for-profit private companies are jealous and greedy. I thought that's why companies decide to merge or buy out one another. /me shrugs. I thought we were living in the land of capitalism -- guess I was wrong.

Since analysing food nutrition compositions I can tell when my body needs fat, when it needs protein, etc. I know my body needs X to do Y. No sugar cravings whatsoever and even the thought of fast food is repulsive. I avoid artifical sweeteners like aspartame. I prepare my own food now, reading labels of processed (canned) foods to reverse engineer what to add to get more or less the same thing, at a small expense of color and texture. But I don't really care, it all goes to the same place. It makes it trivial to repplace lard or hydrogenated oils (read: artery-clogging trans fatty acids) with olive oil, for example.

Also, go aand look at the label of refried beans and compare non-fiber carbs to protein. It's about 2:1 in processed beans compared to 1:1 in dry beans.

I hate how "the food industry" cheapens the nutritional value of food and am saddened how they are able to market any old shit at inflated prices and people continue to lap it up. We really need to listen to our bodies more and think about what we dump into it.
