I feel the same way. They can't agree on the debt-ceiling stuff, and the first week of August is only weeks away. If they don't come to a compromise, the chickenshit investors will scatter. The stock market is on pins and needles and is one crisis / disaster away from a massive sell-off.

Its a shame the financial stability of our country is now being based on transactions of completely imaginary value. Its not even like things of value are being traded. It would be different if companies valuations were based on actual real-world (TM) value, instead of all the exchanges basically being white-collar gambling, with those having the most money having the house advantage. Oh, and even though Joe & Jill Schmoe like you and me are being gamed for our money, of the house loses, Joe & Jill get to foot the bill.

    End rant.

When I was in college, I had a shitty job at a restaurant. I volunteered at a local software company during my off-hours to get resume experience, ~15 hrs a week. After about 3 months I had to quit because school and work became too intensive. About a month after leaving the unpaid internship (which I landed by just walking in the front door cold turkey and asking if they had anything open), they called be back and asked if I would come code for them (since I already knew the company way and the code base. It got me experience, out of a job I really despised, and now I could not be happier. YMMV. Of course there are places that will step on you, but there is merit to working for free. It shows that you are willing to commit to something out of passion and drive to learn the material and be a contributor, and that your not just in it for the money. Yes I know people are starving rah rah and shame on me for working for free, but common, this blog just comes on a little to strong. Do what you have to do to get a job, and if you feel like you are getting the shaft at your internship, SHOP AROUND. There is no end all be all and absolutes do not exist; I don't think you can paint all unpaid internships in such a negative light.

Agreed, coming from Public Safety, the requirement changes are so politicized its insane. Not to say SAIC isn't responsible for some/all of the mess, but I can say I know what its like dealing with mega-conglomerate counties/cities and their inconsistent demands. For $600 million, I think all of us here could have delivered something more than SAIC did though. I would code 22hrs a day for 2 years for that $600 million and make it happen, and then just coast :)

Gotcha, however I just don't see how the language itself is at fault at all. Ditching C# because new devs know other stuff, that's understandable, but ditching the language because of the language seems to be placing too much blame on the .NET stack and not enough on the million other aspects of the business.

I know its cool to bash Microsoft on here, saying C# (or do you mean C##, must be new :) isn't maintainable isn't really fair to the language. Perhaps the project's (MySpace that is) overall structure is poorly designed, but that doesn't make the tools it was designed with unmaintainable. Am I missing something?

    And this generic fodder:

Other certification marks confirm that the device has been tested in terms of radio-frequency (RF) and electromagnetic interference (EMI). This includes ensuring that RF from cell phones, WiFI routers, microwave ovens, cordless phones, etc. won't interfere with the device's operation. Similarly, devices have to be tested to make sure they aren't emitting a too-high level of RF that could interfere with another device (like airplane navigation, or a heart monitor). Any device with a "radio" (including WiFi, Bluetooth, cellular, WiMAX) emits RF, of course -- and just about anything with a microprocessor can be an "unintentional RF radiator."

There are folks behind the scenes who pull the strings, and the presbo is just not that much of a power player. I voted for McCain for the same beliefs, but at the end of the day I realize that about all of them are all puppets on strings. It takes more than just voting for president to turn the country around. You have to start on the local level, your governor, your mayor, your state legislators, before you turn a country around. Changing one man, because that is all he is at the end of the day, one man--the president--will never do anything.

Our NICS/NLETs/NCIC system here isn't the greatest, but it does catch bad guys and is better than no information sharing. What is scarier here is DHS forming their own pseudo-army that is subject to fewer scrutiny than regular troops.
