I would love to see a society where the need for self-defense is not necessary, I just don't believe we have achieved it. The best way to work towards that society is to educate the youth, those who grow up in the 'hood, those who live in squalor. If its all they know it is all they are destined to do.

A different future society (although it is debatable between dystopian and utopian) could automate everything, doctors, lawyers, manufacturing, almost absolutely everything once the infrastructure is in place, and people could live simple, happier lives and not be wage-slaves. Granted it would probably a century or two of automata innovation to make something like that happen, but it would beat having such excess waste, such as cars/drivers ratio. I understand the need to ween America off of foreign oil, but is placing heavy taxes on vehicular use really going to do it? Would this policy exempt electronic vehicles? Ethanol/Corn Derivatives? Motorcycles? Scooters?
