  1. mod PARENT up. on The Secret to Raising Smart Kids · · Score: 1

Mod PARENT up. We need more like you. Good job on doing the ONE THING that I think does more to raise good (and smart) kids...spend time with them, show them that you love them, tell them they're worth something, tell them you love them. It worked on my brother and me (so much so that we kinda have superiority complexes).

You've hit where I believe is the core matter - yeah, there may be issues with big corporations and the internet, but those issues may not go away with someone else in control AND there would be some SERIOUS freedom of speech and access issues with even some moderate European powers in charge of the 'net.

  11. Re:Frankly.. on How Much is Your Right to Vote Worth? · · Score: 1, Insightful

The problem with your scenario - and the good thing behind the electoral college (which needs to be kept, but revamped so the popular vote in each state proportionally splits the electoral college vote) is that it gives a little more say in the election to the smaller, more rural states. If the electoral college were abolished, ALL the power would be vested and wasted and concentrated in large, concentrated urban areas. The rest of us would get screwed over.

  14. Re:Elections is coming... on Russia Honors the Spy Who Stole the A-Bomb · · Score: 2, Insightful

Some of the new bosses in Russia are the EXACT same old bosses - old party members who made good when the Soviet Union fell. Democracy takes time, but Putin is trying to take a twenty-year step back. At first I liked the guy - he's tough, proud of his heritage, hates traitors from both sides of the aisle - but as time went on he kept getting worse and worse on liberties and on trying to maintain his stranglehold on power. It's going to take years - if ever - for the Russians to get out of the mentality that they need a near-dictator in charge.

  15. Blindness... on Is the Future of the Electric Car Industry in Silicon Valley? · · Score: 1

Actually, there is a minor issue along these lines for blind people. They rely on car sounds to see if it's safe for a street crossing, and if one doesn't make enough noise...not that it would happen a whole ton, but it's something that needs to be taken into consideration.

Because there are a ton of people out there who
    A) Misunderstand faith - on both sides; and
B)The world is full of people who refuse to look at anything without physical proof (and don't understand that faith is contained in that outlook as well).

I stepped back from the creation/evolution debate a long time ago. I chose that I am going to remain unsurprised if either view is right in the end, because the God I worship can work any way He wants. People don't come to Christ because evolution was disproven to them or Creation was proven, they come because they figure that there is Something Else that matters a heck of a lot more.

By the way, I'm more or less a Biblical literalist. I'm not ignorant about the debate that goes on, I'm just concerned that there is very little reasonable reaction from either side, and it's two paradigms that can't - and may never - completely understand each other.
