Many cameras take videos in .MOV instead of .AVI; Joe User is told he needs to download QT in order to view his homemade videos and he does.

OTOH, editing a .MOV file with QT pro takes 1/10 of the time needed to edit it with most non-dedicated video editors.

I've got the omnipresent Broadcom chip on a Compaq Presario V5000. Upon firing up 7.10's Live CD, it not only struggled to use it in a native way (unsuccessfully), but also reprogrammed its firmware! It then wouldn't work under PCLinuxOS and ndiswrapper even after a cold reboot. After a hard reboot and XP, it didn't want to work either: I had to uninstall and reinstall it (never had to before).

I looked for answers in the forums, but to date I've got none. Don't dare using another Ubuntu editioneven if it's a Live CD, as I risk this happening again.

If you think socialism is a "scam" you've been hoisted by your own petard. It works pretty well for many countries in Europe
It works well as long as you're the lowest class or the lowest edge of the middle class. Once you get a bit better you find there's little use in working yourself to death because you won't be able to afford much more. Most of us know that hitting it rich doesn't depend solely on brains or hard work.
Rich people don't mind that much about it because in many cases their fortunes have been subsidized by the government (on socialist grounds, of course) and once they're rich enough they transfer funds and hire accountants to avoid the heavy tax burden.
As for services: in Spain, health care is so socialized that in most cities there's no other choice than waiting in line for more than 8 hours at the ER. Few private investors are willing to compete against "free" and the state doesn't have much interest in making the system better. Some may call it "justice", though.

Still, both governments in the 80s were economical and political flops that led to a brutal inflation and let the guerrillas run rampage and vietnamize the country.

Indeed, interest groups have it easier when there's an almighty government that can be influenced to act over a whole country, instead of having to convince everyone through propaganda which can be easily countered.

Also, most people take power and money as the same, when they're not. Money can buy power the same way power can make money worthless. While most of us may look after the money for our well-being and pleasure, the most powerful (and the most dangerous) leaders in history have always gone after the power even if they lived a plain, spartan life. Many political leaders nowadays care only about changing our lifestyle because of their religious or political beliefs and point the peoples' attention towards the millionaires that don't change our lifestyle but make a living out of it. The people as a whole have a lust for money which can be oriented to envy, hate and despise the wealthy, but the lust for power is limited to a small few. That's why dictators go unnoticed before the masses for as long as they don't live "la vida loca".
