Not gonna happen. Linux won't go lower than a 386. maybe give NetBSD a try? it'll run on anything that has two transistors to rub together:)

sigh... I used to work for a large "We'll do your taxes and keep most of your refund" company... you guess which one. There were utilities they would give us tech workers in the field to manipulate some tax return data to convert it to another format that was written in qbasic. I was amused and very frightened at the same time.

er.. what is that mp3... an ISO of a CD with mp3 headers attached? it's almost as painful as cat bzImage >/dev/dsp... wait there are voices in it... ouch.. make it stop...
---
I had my firewall's IDE controller go up in smoke, but the Linux kept chuggin' along. I couldn't log in or do anthing to the box, and the display was full of errors, but it still was routing for the rest of the network. now that was security.

you have that backwards. if you don't check the box, your karma currently doesn't go down, you just add +1 to the comments moderation by default.
The parent poster is suggesting that when you use your plus 1 bonus, you lose karma to essential add a bit of self decided moderation to you comment.. I'm not sure how I feel about either. but just for kicks, I'm leaving my +1 bonus on.:)

"Just let it cool down for a few minutes, and start her up again."
you laugh, but I had a programming class in highschool where we worked on a bunch of 486DX4 100 MHz machines... with no air conditioning. On hot days towards the end of the school year, we couldn't compile our programs if the machine had been on a while. it was so hot the system was too unstable, but if we turned our machine off for a few minutes after coding, but before compiling, and we compiled immediately after booting, the program would compile... ---
My naive thought is that the best way to do it would be to somehow modularize the two VMs so that it can be a compile-time or boot-time option, and let users try both on the same box to see which is better. However, I imagine this would be a ton of work to set up.
this was discussed on the kernel mailing, (check out http://kt.zork.net). The general conclusion was that this would be really had to do with the current build/module system, but kbuild 2.5 has the ability to apply patches before building as long as the patches don't overlap.
---
I've run./configure where the last few lines are:
creating libtool
loading cache./config.cache
creating./config.status
creating Makefile
creating src/Makefile
checking for r00taxx in -lr00t... no
no r00t? Darn!
yeah, needless to say, that makefile and source got a closer looking at...
if you're curious, this was avi-xmms, a plugin for xmms that uses its playlist for avi files played by aviplay...
Or you may be in denial, telling yourself that those fantasies about mortar shells and Microsoft are natural, as are those thoughts about underage Britney Spears Dancing naked on your computer desk.
that Hauppage card looks really nice. How well is it supported in linux? I've found a project that was started on sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/projects/pvr/), but there hasn't been much work on it. Does anyone have more info on it?

the article doesn't say how many lightyears away this star system is.. any astronomers out there have that number off the top of their heads? or a good reference site? thanks:)

some more notes regarding the RPMs for kde 2.2
I downloaded them all and tried to install them but had a bunch of odd dependencies... turns our bero@redhat.com (great guy, does a lot, if not all of the packaging for KDE for redhat), turns out he didn't have a redhat 7.1 box at hand and made the packages on his redhat 7.2 beta box. there are a number of issues he's addressing, so the redhat 7.x packages aren't quite up to snuff... yet.

http://source.bungie.org/. Yes, a microsoft owned game company, that actually has released one of their games to the GPL, and have continued to actively develop it. ---
speak of the devil. they just did it about an hour ago. all of the services on my linux box have gone missing from the net. what a wonderful thing to look forward to when I go home.

uh. it will be a chip in the computer. it won't be a thingie in a cell phone. (though I suppose it could be) there won't be any "attachment"

you know... I might just have a copy of Xenix in my stash somewhere...

can I ask why you didn't use samba to unite the two worlds?

praise the $DEITY! the quickies have returned! I miss the quickies more than words can express. Life is worth living again.
