    I think they spelled tinny correctly. Even on /. tiny is not an adjective I'd expect to be used to describe sounds. Tinny however pertains to its lack of depth across the sound spectrum. More a ping than a full blooded KERBOOM.

    I realise I leave myself open to YHBT YHL, or "have you no sense of humour?" But I'm fed up today, so I'm being a pedant.

    I think from memory planet earth flips its magnetic polarity every 11'000 years. Its kind of spooky because the Sun's sunspot cycle has max and mins on an 11 year cycle.

    Was the story about Google going public, or was it about their search mechanisms?

    Frankly I think that it was about the floatation, therefore references to your page being in position 5 when its the busiest page you have are indeed irrelevent. Well moderated whoever marked this as off topic.

    Its good to see that a .COM is actually being floated *AFTER they have started to make some cash.

    Perhaps this may spark a return in confidence to the shares in the technology sector.

    It also shows that if you offer a good service, word of mouth can make you a market leader. Perhaps M$ should bear this in mind instead of pi55ing around trying to tie everybody into Bill Gate's megalomania trip with very suspect EULA's for their development kits.

    Yeah maybe it needs more skill to keep running, but I've seen houses where they run windoze. Windoze is well known for self terminating without a reasonable excuse, coupled with its ability to destroy data with ease means that you still need a fleet of people wandering round fixing broken desktops.

    For me I'd go for the additional expense of higher skill requirements. You can offset this against massively reduced license costs.

    Save your eyes. Here is a nice picture of our Sun at Intellicast.

    I don't know how to interpret the bright spot which can be seen towards the centre of The Sun, but I suspect that is the sunspot based on the picture in the article attached to this story.

    You have a perspective that not many of us have. But do you still feel a little pride that whatever it is that you have published has been *blagged* and published elsewhere.

    I know it doesn't make you a richer person in monetary terms, but surely in your own mind you can build great mounds of inner peace and tranquility because people have taken the time to read and be impressed by your work. Impressed enough to make illegal copies.

    I wish I had the ability/motivation/imagination to create something worthy of publishing. I feel that I will never know the feeling of having unauthorised copies of my work.

    My car *DOES* that. I call him Herbie. The only problem is, when he decides to park somewhere safer in his judgement than mine, it takes me ages to find him.

    IMO better to have all the responsibility for yourself than to share it and find that something you didn't expect happened because you thought it was covered elsewhere.

    I was just sitting thinking about it and for me personally being accused of something I haven't done does not lead to embarrassment, but something closer to anger.

    All the accusations of guilt aimed at me in the past are all true ;-P
