  1. Suprise! Wii on EA - Wii Caught Us By Surprise · · Score: 1

When i worked for a major entertainment distributor (blockbuster) i was singing the praises of the Wii the moment i saw the controller. i realized how important this milestone would be. I would talk to the HCG and they would say " but will i have the graphic power". then i remind them the DS is kicking the pants off of the PSP.

  2. What tivo needs to survive on The Trouble With TiVo · · Score: 2, Interesting

Remember the days of AVR (analog video recording) set your timer record your show.. pop out a VHS tape? If tivo integrated just one thing (the pop out of media) it would skyrocket TiVo. I have a PC setup at home with DVR software and once a week I copy all shows to dvd. There are about 10 shows that i watch mainly all anime or cartoons. I also have my digital cable box with DVR built-in but I only use it for channel changing because I want to have a record of the shows I watch last beyond "the drive is full" erasure.

  3. Linux in Prime Time on Dell to Offer More Linux PCs · · Score: 1

I've been a Linux enthusiast for years. I've switched distros several times. I've finally found one i'm comfortable with and will suggest to people tired of the M$/Anti-everything software headache. I find it kinda comforting that the time i spent learning linux as a user and a tech will soon (in the next 5-10 years) become a commodity that will be somewhat common place if dell really takes making linux boxes available. I see many manufactures following the footsteps of Dell if their sales of linux rises. I hope it's a case of monkey see monkey do.

  4. Re:and the obvious question is... on PC World Editor Returns, CEO Demoted · · Score: 1

The village voice and other alternative magazines that are free for many metros that were owned by the Village Voice brand had a similiar situation. They fired 1/4 of their staff for being too harsh on their advertisers and hired more friendly music critic writters to increase revenue. Its just business as usual and another example is the TV industry. How many headline news stories do you hear bashing an advertiser? None. and does the music sound better or resonate better since the company hired lackeys to write articles to be nice to advertisers. i would think an advertiser would be more apt to hear the truth than to continue to shovel the same crap to us and call it sugar. Constructive critizism is the key to growth. If everytime microsoft put out an os and every magazine they advertized in say it was the best system in the world.... oh wait that does happen

Lets face it as an advertiser I don't want to be putting my ad beside a colume that just said my product was sub par.

Then don't put out sub-par products and not expect someone to rip them to shreds!

  7. Knee Jerk Reaction on Student Arrested for Writing Essay · · Score: 1

We, as Americans, have this knee jerk reaction that feeds the fear and the terror. I can understand if the kid was making a direct threat. What ever happened to counseling, what ever happened to looking at the issue? what ever happened to paxil? Everybody wants to stop copy cats, i understand. There needs to be more emphasis on finding out what someone's issues are instead of calling the cops when they turn in your homework

  8. Nintendo taking a gamble on Wii Shortages Could Last For Months · · Score: 1

  9. The NeXT level of phone on Vonage Allowed to Sign New Customers · · Score: 1

I'm glad to see that Vonage can start to resell services. It's a shame that the technology behind it gets wrapped up in patents and court cases. I guess I'm too much of an open source, let me fix it kinda guy to understand why certain patents are given to companies in the technology world. I have used Vonage in the past and it's not a bad system. Yea it has kinks. But we are forging forward to the day where there are not hard lines and cellphone. this type of technology should be owned by just one company. ..Maybe companies need to go back to kindergarten and learn how to share.

Compare to having an actual bigger desk and be able to work on things more efficiently. 11. short attention span theater on Busy Lives Prompt Speedier Board Games · · Score: 2, Interesting

what's this world coming to when you can't even take an hour or 2 to play a board game but you'll let your kids play video games unsupervised for hour. I understand what's it like to busy and i don't have kids but i have sisters that i'll devote days to them to their enjoyment. Just because i'm a hard core brother that way. I would think parents would do more to spend as much time with kids whether it's boardgames or video games

Look at when official Redhat patches and other updated packages actually come out. They come out days, weeks, and months later. Sure there is some patch that some random guy hatched together -- the power of open source!! However, if you were to apply that untested P.O.S. across the world in tons of real environments, you'd probably have a shitton of problems. I've have been exclusively linux for about a year now. I've have done patches even to my kernel without as many errors as i have with Windows. Microsoft just hasn't tested their software enough to know what works and how to fix problems reliable without causing headache.

As s technician I believe i should be able to look back at the end user experience and judge for others what is user friendly or not. if I have trouble with it it's probably not ready for every user consumption. If I can fly though it with minimal RTFM'ing then it's almost ready for prime time. If I can do it in my sleep then i should know that it's every user ready. I'm not a big fan of the *buntu series of Linuxes/Linuxen (wiki). I've been installing Novell just because the techs around me find it to be the easiest that they used (these are M$ techs btw) I've already installed it on several non-linux aware user machines and they have minimal questions (mainly where do i find...? , where can i get...?, wow this really free?) all these questions are pretty simple to answer. And as a tech that's what i want, users asking me simple questions then giving me hard aches and bitching cause their machine is slow and their IE. doesn't wanna work.
