  1. What about moisture or humidity? on The First Paper-Based Transistors · · Score: 2, Insightful

Because this dye just directs a certain wavelength of light towards the edge. The 40X factor comes in comparing solar cells placed on the edge of a pane of glass without dye, vs. with dye. And this is 4X better than previous dyes.

This might be useful for office buildings with a lot of glass facing the sun, and nowhere to stick solar panels.

If you wanted to get the most efficiency, you'd turn the solar cell 90 degrees to it's discussed position, and put it perpendicular to the light, e.g. parallel to the glass, or directly behind the glass. Or just remove the glass and put the solar cell there, which is what most people think of when they see solar panels.

It's actually 40 times better light transmission for solar cells placed at the edge of a sheet of glass. As in, 1/2" wide solar cells placed along the circumference of a 1/2" thick pane of glass, compared to no dyes at all. And this result transmits 4 times more light than previous dyes.

Sorry to pick your post to rag on, but literally hundreds of people had a hard time interpreting the article.

Yeah, I made a comment earlier about how some dragsters and monster trucks will actually build up ice on the outside of the block because they run cold. Evaporation of the atomized fuel takes heat away, even though there's an explosion. But, as I mentioned earlier, the fuel-to-air ratio is really high, and compression ratios need to be high as well to take advantage of this. Think 6 or 7 MPG in a Honda Civic.

I'm pretty sure it's some form of alcohol. Alky-burning dragsters and monster trucks can have ice built up on the outside of the block after a run, due to the way it's atomized and evaporates. Sure, it explodes, but with not a lot of heat. High compression ratios and a really high A/F mixture rule the roost here.

Sure, it runs cool, but my guess is he'll be getting 6 or 7 MPG in a Honda Civic with it.

I've never been poll-tested, which is a shame because I have very strong feelings on a lot of issues, and like to make them known.

I guess my concern is one of personal opinion vs. constituents. For example, let's say there was a bill coming up that would remove "In God We Trust" from our legal tender. If I'm an atheist Senator (ha!), and by and large my constituents told me their wishes were to keep the saying on the money, then it's my job to support their opinions, not my own, regardless of my personal feelings.

The catch is that if you don't respect a circle saw, you just cut your own fingers off. If you don't respect a gun, the chance exists that you kill innocent bystanders. The same exists for a car, and idiots use those as well to kill people every day, but it's a little harder to screw around with a car and accidentally kill someone, because it accelerates slowly and has brakes.

If these were Joe Blows who never took their gun to a range and barely knew the slide from the magazine... well, then it goes back to training and experience.

I personally don't believe you have to have religion to live by the Golden Rule. Morals and values can be taught without spirituality or belief in a higher power. Yes, many religions have the Golden Rule amongst their teachings, but they also have "Don't kill" and a host of other important human lessons. (Even animals follow a code of ethics.)

I think this might be a lot like the chicken and the egg: Which came first, religion or morals & values? I get that some people really need religion in their lives, and that it gives them something that's missing in their lives otherwise, and that's great... for them. I just don't think the reason for the decline of morals and values and respect for their fellow man in this country can be attributed directly to lack of religion.

I'd have an easier time running "capitalistic society" up the flagpole.

It should be noted that I'm not religious in any way, shape, or form, but I am tolerant of other's views and opinions.
