That's the danger with science fiction, it gets out of date way too quickly; one new discovery or invention and bam; the story no longer works.
That's the danger with bad science fiction that is dependent on its science/technology for the core of its entertainment/enjoyment value, instead of just using the science/tech as a vehicle for the characters/story. Which is not the case with most Asimov I've read (though I haven't read the one you're speaking of). I thoroughly enjoyed The Martian Chronicles, Out of the Silent Planet, and Perelandra despite knowing that there was no breathable atmosphere on Mars/Venus. In fact, most Bradbury/Heinlein/Asimov stories use technology (or make presumptions about science) that we now know to be impossible/untrue. I don't think this detracts much (if at all) from their stories.
We've only gone 12.2 km because the rock gets wicked warm.
You, sir, are obviously not a geologist. The real reason we've only gone that deep is because drilling deeper would threaten the habitat of an subterranean advanced reptilian-humanoid species that would destroy us if we intruded upon them.

The researcher had said that a "disastrous" earthquake would strike on March 29, but when it didn't, Guido Bertolaso, head of Italy's Civil Protection Agency, officially denounced Giuliani in court last week for "false alarm." "These imbeciles enjoy spreading false news," Bertolaso was quoted as saying. "Everyone knows that you can't predict earthquakes."
I'm a bit puzzled as to why you'd be against government schools (clearly, something nearly demanded by the grant of authority to Congress for "promoting the general welfare").
I love how "promote the general welfare" is interpreted as a free pass for the federal government to expand its powers for anything that provides any benefit to a significant number of people. It strikes me that, at a minimum, an analysis should be done as to whether the federal government's providing of a non-essential given service/product (be it interstate roads, education, healthcare, internet access, or a free pony) contributes more to the general welfare than if it just let its citizens keep their money and choose the product/service for themselves. It seems that Aldous Huxley's world (or John Galt's) can be achieved through a continuous series of efforts to "promote the general welfare".
Don't be absurd,/. isn't about being informative. It's about dropping memes in at every available opportunity and making puns based on something unrelated.
Your injection of antagonism iis not contributing to everyone else's enjoyment of this site. What does this help us see? Quell humor and all you end up with is a dry, boring forum. Natalie Portman.:-P
Unfortunately, the industry of "BPA free" products sprang up at pretty much exactly the same time that the industry of BPA free products did. It turns out that printing new labels is much easier than actually reformulating your products.
No, no, no. The printer just forgot the punctuation. It should be:"BPA, free". The manufacturers are including BPA, at no extra cost to you! I suspect they're all using the same printer as Lionel Hutz.
So, a little old lady whom takes a hit by a 3K pound car must be approximately ten times more of a "real" athlete than a football player?
If she can take that hit thirty times in the course of three hours, each time jumping back to her feet and begging the coach for more opportunities, just so she could win a competition - hell yeah she'd be more of a real athlete in my book!
In related news, kitebuggies will generally travel at three times the wind speed, depending on the aspect ration of the kite.
Many sail-based vehicles travel much faster than wind-speed. What they don't do, though, is travel directly downwind faster than wind-speed. This vehicle does.
Groundskeeper Willie: Aachh! AT&T is monster! Kill it! Kill it! Glenn Derene: It's not a monster - it's just like the power company. Groundskeeper Willie: Awww... it's just like the power company... KILL IT! KILL IT!!
Well said, Arker. Internet access isn't a resource that needs to be generated. Roads and highways are the better analogy - if we're allowed to speak of the government as being "in the business" of providing us with motor vehicle access. While it's true that roads are degraded and need maintenance roughly proportional to the "car-miles" or "semi-truck miles" traveled over them, and that traffic systems need constant management roughly proportional to the quantity of traffic on them, the per-car-mile costs are insignificant compared to the initial infrastructure and regular maintenance/management/power(for traffic signals, etc) costs.
If it was just ornaments I wouldn't ever have objected. I do find it offensive that they do affect the game dynamics, its enough that one can feel compelled to use them for the extra edge.
I, for one, welcome our noob Sword-of-a-Thousand-Truths-wielding overlords. And I would like to remind them that, as a trusted leader in my fellowship, I can be useful in rounding up others to farm mad loots for them in the Mines of Moria.

Priceless.
Big transformers in the power grids will be the main victims.
OMG... Won't someone think of the Decepticons!?!
I've always felt that these ads aren't just intrusive, they're -lying- to me.
Truly, it is a travesty that such a noble profession as advertising has fallen so far from its previously honest and forthright ways.

What next, shooting french fries at passing motorists?
Now that's what I call Fast Food.
Or ice cream cones. Now that's what I call a Sticky Situation.
Seriously, right?! Fat chance such grisly tactics by some obvious PETA mignon could stem the a-salt of puns. What a jerky!
How safe do you feel driving your 1960s car down the freeway at 80 mph?
Good point. I'd have a hard time restraining myself to 80mph in a 1968 Camaro SS.
Say goodbye to karma for that /. account spiffydudex. For your pleasure, Bill Hicks has a special message for your kind.
So does this mean I can't use GTA as an excuse as to why I robbed my neighbor anymore?
Correct. You can, however, use it to explain your predilection towards hookers.

Or they 'graciously' settle for 1% and still laugh all the way to the bank.
$15 billion? From Limewire LLC?! Methinks you're off by a couple orders of magnitude...
... jobs are magickally printed, without or without CUPS...
Not a fan of CUPS, eh?
I was an internet at some random software company for 6 months...
How did you get that job?!
Next - maybe they're figure out a way to produce more food so that they're people won't be starving to death and in complete poverty.
You keep using that word... I don't think it means what you think it means. :-P
