I still don't think most of the readers have a concept of what it is you describe.
This topic was enough to get me up at 4am, log in to a computer that I usually do not use. Type in my horrendously complex password while still groggy eyed to expose the fantastic, misguided "progressive" bullhocky Stewart Brand is proposing.
I invite the rest of you out there to take a look at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJhVM930YXY video, taken from a movie that I can't remember the title of at the moment in my 4am and see what it is that he thinks. The picture on the article is so sanitized it makes puke.
This is not what human kind should be reduced to. For the author of this article to believe its someones place to live like this to satisfy some "green" agenda is reprehensible.
Honestly, the best way that I've seen for enabling this segment of society to grow and prosper and have success is the availability of micro loans. The amount of success driven by this type of economic activity is truly inspiring.
Let me make some corrections to your observations.
Google voice does not use VOIP at all, for anything. Making a call from a cell phone through google voice sends the call request via a data connection, to which googles servers initiate two calls. One to your cell phone, and another to your party. The google voice software on the cell phone intercepts the incoming call and answers it, and then waits for the other party to pick up... If you're webapp crippled on an iphone, the calls are still routed over normal calls using normal minutes between your phone and the GV servers. Here is what is lost for each party
Apple looses control over some or all of your contacts as google voice will use your google contacts, and those stored in your phone. On android, they are one and the same.
AT&T looses the ability to see who you are calling and whatever aggregate crap they generate from that to sell to whoever... Why this is valuable to them or how they even have legal authority to sell it is beyond me. They also loose 50% of the SMS revenue from the account as outbound SMS can be done over data.
This calls for a deadtreeing.
1. Write nothing but see attachment in the space for the account information
2. Attach entire TOS for each site out there, even ones that you do not use and highlight the section about not sharing account information.
What do they teach kids in schools these days.
Let me explain.
The scenario is the detonation of a 1 megaton nuclear device at 250 miles. That's in space, btw. It would not directly kill a single person.
When that happens the EMP field would actually cover the US and a good chunk of Canada, and parts of Mexico.
Wait, he's gonna say that I'm full of crap....

Look at the effects while you're there. And if you say that it can't happen.... You'll see that it already has been done.
They should of also had two separate demarcation points for power as well, with a trow switch on both sides of the backup to have physical separation from the farm and the grid, only to be connected up when something like this happens. When you have that many servers, it's the only thing that makes sense.
The key is to use stylized text and artwork to create a logo. Then register that and put it on everything that your company owns. That can be registered if it does not exist in the system and does not matter how weak it is word wise.
The lesson here is that neither party cares about the citizen, regardless of political orientation, sympathies, etc. They only care about satisfying their lobbyists, and raking in the treats from it.
It's time to start voting for individuals that care about representing your interests. A party line vote is throwing your vote away, even if your party wins. Registering for a party just lets them know that they do not have to earn your support or even attempt to represent you.
I'd say it would be unfortunately you own fault for not doing your homework once cobra became an option. There are MANY less expensive Private insurance options that do not have to be purchased through COBRA through a former employer.
Would you still have had to pay something? Of course, but it would of been much less than $26K.
The thing is that people need to stop taking the path of least resistance through their life. If you would of went out and visited an insurance agent, instead of just paying out the cobra thing that automatically came in the mail, you would of saved over 50% of what you paid.
As it should be.
The point is this. Any of the computer/network equipment that actually runs the plant should not be connected to the outside, period. All normal computers for office work, typing up non-classified reports and reading slashdot should be on a whole seperate network. Idealy, there should be 3 networks since the plant should only have certified equipment connected to it that won't cause what happened here to take place unless something was truly malfunctioning. I'd be a little scared to find windows boxes, and even most unix/linux things connected to the plant network.
Looking further in to the language, SoundExchange was not Mandated by congress in the law. They just filled in the void that was created by the legislation. This is confirmed by the response given in an interview with the membership director of Sound Exchange found here: http://www.futureofmusic.org/articles/soundexchang e.cfm
Artists, Make it known up front if you do not want these punks taking your money away, and when you find that they have taken your money away (check here to find out: http://63.236.111.137/jsp/unpaidArtistList.jsp )without your permission, Sue them in to dust.
Remember, your release says ALL RIGHTS RESERVED, so reserve em and keep these punks out of your life.
Yeah, but the other unseen charge here is the drivers. People that change printers like they change diapers, end up with crap sitting in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monito rs that will keep the next printer from installing properly. Next thing you know is that they have a $100 geek(quack)squad bill to fix something that takes less time to fix than it takes to fill out the paperwork.
One Major error will cost more than warehousing stuff where it needs to be in some cases.. If I ever get to the point where my business relies on something being someplace, some amount of it is going to be kept there. No I's, A's or B's.

And we still do... The Re-entry vehicles of an ICBM or SLBM drop at hypersonic speeds. The trick is to not get nuked in return.

It means absolutely nothing I'll charge the batteries with electricity from a coal fired plant, TYVM...
