Great so now the computer will write the program the customer doesn't want because he didn't really know what he wanted when he wrote the requirements. How will this AI piece cope with software maintenance & bug fixes?
What do you think pushed Skynet to start the war and obliterate all mankind?
If an itunes-like publisher were to open up, and offer low priced books direct from the author (like on the itunes app store model maybe) this would revolutionize (read KILL) the dead tree publishing industry. It would also open the door to lots of CRAP. But a ratings system would emerge I am sure. If wishes were fishes... Your wishes came true, but currently without the impact that a big (iTunes like) name carries. Still, it's there: http://www.lulu.com/
One should also keep in mind that there are more people (besides the author, who is a central figure, for sure) involved in publishing a quality book.
Apart from Understand for C++, I'd also suggest SourceMonitor - http://www.campwoodsw.com/sm20.html
It will at least quickly point you to potentially problematic parts (long functions, deep nesting, etc.).
What's also interesting is that payload smuggling (there's a name for this in security field, but I can't recall it at the moment) was taking place in France - a couple of brother traders used to bribe telegraph operators to make "errors" in which they encoded their own messages that were essentially giving them the opportunity to do arbitrage trading between Bordeaux and Paris. When they were discovered they were exhiled from France and went to Monaco to set up the gambling business. Details on this and many more interesting things can be found in "Introduction To Financial Technology" http://www.amazon.com/Introduction-Financial-Technology-Complete-Services/dp/0123704782
Everything before Spook Country.

Intel 1414i was the best modem ever. It cost around $150 and then Intel killed it because it was cannibalizing their expensive $500+ modem sales.
ATH0 hangs up.
"Do not try to bend the phone — that's impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth: there is no phone."
