Real-time MP3 playback did not come into fruition until late 1995, and it only started to get very popular when 1997 rolled around. The Diamond Rio portable MP3 player came out in late 1998.
Also, MP3 encoding was a heavy work in progress in '93. It only started to sound relatively passable when l3enc matured in 1997.
So will HTC's smart phones get VESA3 support, terrible OpenGL, an annoying "InControl99" panel and the most unstable crashiest video drivers on the planet?
Come on, Felicia and the ESRB are even to blame for why the US didn't get more trailer releases, and the US's commercials were men, manly spandex men, even on man channels. That has to do with the issue here as well.

I don't think this will take off for two reasons:
- OA is already a free game to begin with, browserfying it would be very pointless.
- Coder-only lead, no artists/mappers.
- "ArenaLive" is a trademark violation waiting to happen.

You're in luck. Eduke32 is getting a new renderer called Polymer, which hopes to features some of this obligatory 'next gen' features that have been standard for 4 years now.
Personally, I think this will just mean id software becoming a 'licensed game sweatshop' with non-stop Elder Scrolls spinoffs and Terminator titles. I sure hope they stick to their own original IPs and only get production funding out of this...
