If people were not giving evolution 'special treatment' then right wing religious nut jobs would ram 'creationism' and 'intelligent design' down our throats in science class. Neither of which are a Theory (capital T). If the scientific establishment permitted this to occur what would be next? Would we be required to teach prayer as an acceptable form of medicine? etc...

The fact of the matter is that 99+% of the scientific establishment has given the nod to evolution. Now until another hypothesis comes along that does a better job of explaining things then it will remain entrenched. In some scientific fields even the presence of a new hypothesis/theory does not necessarily invalidate previous ones. Newtonian physics is still taught because 99% of the time it is right. The Theory of Relativity amends to it and says 'This is right except under X circumstances'. Therefore most don't need to deal with Relativity in their everyday lives as we're generally not moving at close to the speed of light.

Ask me to strip down over a pill or two of over the counter medication the response should be a healthy 'go fuck yourself' and if they try to do anything to you before your parents arrive physical retaliation is more than authorized.

To me there is not too much difference between a 50 year old guy getting his rocks off to a 14 year old girl and these school administration forcing this girl to strip in order to search her for a few pills of asprin? Geez these are the kids that are going into puberty and getting their periods. Of course they're gonna carry a bit of asprin to help them deal with the cramps and bloating and what not... 3) Where are the child molestation, sexual interference, etc... charges? What they subjected the girl was tantamount to rape.

Long story short, even Cops need a fairly high bar in order to require a strip search of a suspect that is a legal adult. What these School Staff had was far less, basically relying on hearsay from another student to basically strip search, humiliate and molest a 13 year old girl. Clearly the Supreme Court should bitchslap these school staff and the school and the school board as a result of this outright stupidity.

Unfortunately it is a sad reality that while you can determine the priority of your router. EVERY SINGLE ROUTER between you and your destination wont necessarily have the same priority because NEWSFLASH... You dont control them. They need to be prioritized in such a way that it makes the network usable for everyone while not engaging in active throttling or censorship based on protocols.

If prioritizing and other network management tools are done properly. Ideally if these measures were put into place responsibly the end user would not even KNOW they were being used. So what if VOIP goes first, its a very 'latency' sensitive protocol, a few extra milliseconds or dropped packets can destroy the quality of a VOIP connection. You would still get your HTTP(S) traffic in a reasonable time frame and the added milliseconds probably wouldnt even be noticed. Just like putting P2P or other 'bulk' transfers to the back of the line. People wont notice a few extra minutes on a several hours long download as long as the DATA GETS THROUGH. What ISPs like Comcast were trying to do was to prevent the data from getting through at all or effectively 'censorship' as they wanted people to subscribe to their cable TV offerings which means they have a conflict of interest as they have a financial stake in engaging in such 'censorship' of P2P protocols.

I suppose with smart grid technology it would be possible for a utility to remotely turn off the lights in office buildings when someone forgot to do so thus saving some electricity. As long as there is some sort of manual override so that if someone is working late they can keep their light on.

I agree that things are more difficult to deal with. The fact is solar power is designed to basically reduce the dependency on the electrical grid to make it so that generation can be toned down thus saving energy/fuel.

Well if you want to get into technicalities...

Making child porn is a result of an illegal act. I would assume that things such as 'rape' would also benefit from such censorship as well. Taping an illegal act and distributing that tape and/or selling it is an illegal act itself because you could not have done such without committing a crime in the first place.

Making a bomb/explosive is generally illegal (usually there are some exceptions which permit making of small harmless amounts for pyrotechnic and fireworks work). However the KNOWLEDGE of how to make an bomb/explosive is NOT illegal in and of itself until you take that knowledge and apply it to cause trouble/destruction. Same goes for things like fraud and identity theft, its illegal to do but not illegal to know about. In fact knowing about it is often the best means to protect yourself against it.

Part of the problem with 'child porn' is that we as a society are increasingly selling 'sex' to younger adolescents (the 12-18 crowd) in the form of advertising and media. As a result they emulate what they are advertised (look at all the teenage girls dressed up as Brittany Spears or Paris Hilton wannabees and look like hookers in training). Partly because of this emulation advertisers and media decide to use younger adolescents in more sexual roles which in turn attracts attention from older men.

Since power generated in a grid cannot be effectively stored, it must be used when generated.

Actually power companies are actually banking on Electric Vehicles with their massive battery packs of storage as being integral portions of the electrical grid so that they will finally be able to store large amounts of electricity.

Decentralized power generation, however, is a completely different type of control problem.

You're right but I don't believe that the problem is that complex. If each house is a power generating station using Solar Panels, Wind Turbines, etc... then such a house would only need to 'import' the shortfall during times when it is in high drain. It is also possible that such a house could 'export' when in times of low drain/high production.

I do not forsee too much 'decentralizing' of the energy network. If they were to do this then individuals would become less dependent on the utilities and the government because they would not be able to just cut their power like they can these days. Giving people independence is not something that corporations or governments are prone to do. Expect to see more 'Smart Grid' stuff put into place but expect the electric company to charge you for using the electricity that you yourself generate.
