Good, then the US and Mexico can standardize their IP protection laws to suit Canada... Might make the US laws more sane and balanced if they're forced to acknowledge fair use rights once again.

Yeah we signed those back when US copyright laws almost made sense. Since then they've introduced the draconian DMCA and other stupid laws as well. I fully support as a Canadian keeping copyright laws in my country the same because guess what IT WORKS PERFECTLY FINE FOR OUR POPULACE.

MITM Attack Vectors for a Police/Spy Agency

    1) Attack the machine via Trojans or what have you.
    2) Poison the hosts file to point www.verisign.com or whatever to your server you have setup.
    3) Poison the DNS server(s) to do the same as #2.
    4) Hijack the upstream router and make a routing entry to your own server. (You can make your interception server do both DNS *AND* SSL then)
    5) Attack the receiving machine via trojans or similar methods to the above.

The scary thing is this would actually work. Almost noone checks their hosts file regularly. Most people assume when you type in www.criminals.com that your machine knows it magically, those who know how DNS work generally treat it as 100% trustworthy but it really isnt. And the attack via upstream router is pretty much untraceable unless you do tracert regularly to these places. (IE. Hey this used to take 12 hops... why is it only taking 3...)

If the RIAA was so sure about their cases as they would have you believe then they would take each and every case to court instead of offering these $3000 get out of jail free cards and backing out of any and all cases where they may look like they will lose.

But hey its fine for them, its just not fine for the grandmother/disabled person/single mother of two to try to shame the RIAA into dropping their case by giving them some bad publicity.

If Microsoft cant invest the time to make a streamlined version of Windows XP for the XO machine then they never really wanted in the market in the first place. I mean this *IS* a company that craps out billion dollar bills like nobody's business. This is a case of Microsoft should bend to OLPC's desires rather than the other way around.

Also I agree on those ground rules. At least Windows XP for the XO should cost nothing and have any WGA and DRM crap yanked out of it. Otherwise theres no point in putting it on there.
